KN Loved the Pushcart Relays

Every year Kappa Nu entered the Theta Chi "Pushcart Relays,"
which took place along Gayly Road, from Hearst Street to the end of
Kleeberger Field. Over 50 living groups competed annually for top
honors in two categories: the fastest pushcart, propelled by six
runners pushing their carts in relays, and the originality category,
in which the pushcarts were decorated for creativity, uniqueness
and humor. What a surprise... KN went for humor!

Above, Si Kroll pilots the KN winning entry, sitting on a toilet seat.
Larry Ephron here provides the power. The following year the house
entry was back into the bathroom (see below). Art Twain piloted the
"Greek Golden Bath," pulled along by such famous Greeks as
(Visible, R to L) Atlas (Barrie Engel), Mars (Ronnie Morrow), Zeus
(Brian Landsberg), and Elvis (Howie Gilbert). The bathtub stopped
in front of the judges' stand, and a hidden pump activated the shower,
allowing Twain to do a hilarious routine while taking a shower.

But the best was yet to come. The winning KN entry in 1957
was a 10-foot high horse, pulled by Gary Polinsky and Darrell
Sevilla. When the beast reached the judges' stand, the 18 brothers
hidden inside broke out of the "Gift Horse" and drenched judges
and onlookers alike with water guns and water balloons.

The following year Kappa Nu's speedburners changed the tradition
by winning the speed contest, setting a new course record.
