INVESTIGATION OF PULSE COMBUSTION

Why investigation of pulse combustion?

The pulse combustor can be used to generate acoustic environment which will reduce fouling of the heating surfaces inside of the large steam power plant boilers, or to enhance heat and material transport in various applications in process, agricultural and other industries.

Aim

Development of a gas-fired pulse burner which will be used as wave generator in addition to existing burners in coal-fired large boilers.

Program of the investigation

The main part of the investigation will be done under real operation conditions, according to the next program:

  • short repeat of the laboratory investigation (short checking of the previous results),
  • proposal to the investigation under real operation conditions – program of the investigation,
  • construction of the experimental line (to the real operation conditions),
  • choice and assembly of the measuring equipment,
  • experiment (2 years),
  • conclusion, final report

Total duration of the research program: 3 years

Personal

Bosnia Doc. Dr. I Smajevic, Dipl.-Ing.

Ass. Nihad Hodzic, Dipl.-Ing. Three new persons

Knowledge and experience

Dr. Izet Smajevic has made his doctoral thesis (1991) in the field of pulse combustion (under the leading of Prof. K. Hanjalic). The investigation we proposed would be continuation of the previous done investigation.

Importance of the project

The results we will get are going to be applicable, especially in SPP "Kakanj" near Sarajevo. It would be a new base for the continuation of the narrow cooperation between the Faculty of the Mechanical Engineering Sarajevo and Elektroprivreda BiH (SPP "Kakanj") we had before the war.

Possibly support to the investigation from the bosnian industry

We strongly hope that Elektroprivreda BiH is going to support the investigation, at least by the manufacturing of some parts of the experimental equipment (eg. some pieces of burners).
