Various Knives: The top knife is a Pukko Style Drop Point Hunter with a 4" D-2 blade. The handle is California buckeye burl with rich black ebony bolsters.
Skinner: this skinner was originally another unfinished knife. Mel's godmother requested a knife that she could have as a remembrance of Mel and his life's passion, but they had already all been auctioned off. Wade King, Mel's friend, finished this knife using buckeye burl scales. The blade itself is 440C stainless steel.
A Pair of Knives from Wade King's Collection: The top one has an ATS-34 blade with kingwood scales while the second one is a Neck Knife with D-2 blade and California buckeye burl scales (it was also pictured earlier with the trio of neck Knives). This particular knife was donated to Knives Illustrated magazine a few months back for use in one of their giveaway contests and was featured with a nice photo on the last page of that issue.
More of Wade King's Collection: The top knife is a D-2 neck knife with purpleheart wood laid over G-10 (very rare use of synthetic materials by Madpoet). The next one is a skinner with purpleheart scales, while the third and fourth knives are the ones seen above. Special thanks are extended to Wade King for his providing most of the pictures seen here from Mel's hard drive.
Early Skinner: This knife is a real treat! It has a 4" blade, possibly of 440C stainless steel. It features a very rare hollow grind, AND a hidden tang! Despite how nice this knife is, you can tell how much Mel's work developed between this knife and his more recent offerings.
Boot Knife: Another nice rarity. This knife has a 4" D-2 blade with a walnut handle. There is the trademark "M" fileworked into the spine, but the initials "MS" also appear scratched into the ricasso! It is believed that this early knife was carried by the Madpoet himself.
Semi Skinners: these hybrid knives are the consummate outdoor knives. The top one, a Small Semi Skinner, has a 4' D-2 blade with cocobolo scales and nickel silver pins in a nice pattern. The Semi Drop Point below it has a 4" D-2 blade and exotic goncalo alves scales.
