Communicating with Style
The objective of the class was to gain a better understanding of peoples work, and behavioral tendencies, and to develop an understanding of how these styles may effect others. The majority of the class was centered around one exercise. The exercise involved answering a series of questions by ranking our choices from one to four. We then added up the numbers and the one that had the highest positive difference from the medium was our behavioral tendency. The exercise was called DISC. The DISC instrument was used as a tool to understand our behavioral tendency. Answering a series of questions gave us an answer which we felt best matched our behavioral style and people were proud to possess that style. People with a D were the people that wanted to get down to the point of the work and get it done as fast as possible. The lucky people, like me, who possessed an I were the creative and chatty bunch. The people with an S were the people who work well with any one and get the job done. And the unfortunate people that are C are the perfectionists. Then we analyzed the possibility of forming a group with all these different characters and which group would be most successful . The class came to an consensus where we felt that a group would be incomplete without any of these four characteristics and that there has to a right balance of each characteristic in a successful group.
