Chapter Eleven

1) HENRY CLAY: "Henry of the West" Young congressman, started term in 1811 and ran three unsuccess attempts for the presidency. Western War Hawk.
2) WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON: Led American soldiers to repell a surprise battle at Tippacanoe on November 7, 1811..
3) OLIVER HAZARD PERRY: Energetic American admiral, who in 1813, to assist with the attack on Canada, built a fleet of green-timbered ships.
4) ANDREW JACKSON: American General, and later president, who in 1814 led a glorious American after the War of 1812, in The Battle of New Orleans.
5) CONSTITUTION AND GUERRIERRE: A battle between the two ships, the first American , tht latter British, in 1812. The American ships were much stronger, the Constitution being nicknamed "Old Ironsides" and won an easy battle against the British counterpart.
6) BLOCKADE: Imposed by both Britain and France if America traded with the opposite, in 1809,
7) ARMISTICE: True colors of The Treaty of Ghent. Signed 12/25/1814 set all land back to former owners and agreed to stop blockades with war.
8) RUSH - BUGOT AGREEMENT: Signed in 1817 between British and US, it severely limited naval arrangement on the Great Lakes.
9) FORT McHENRY: Washington fort burned in the War of 1812, held Francis Scott Key as he watched the battle and wrote The Star Spangled Banner.
10) TECUMSEH: Shawnee Indian who tried to organize the Indians in a rebellion against the invading troops.


QUESTIONS

1) Before the War of 1812, America could not travel on the high seas, without the threat of being taken by the British or the French. Either the men were Shangheied by one of the nations or the goods could not be traded do to the various blockades,.

2) The British and French refused to trade with a double blockade do to the two acts.

3) Mr. Madison's War , the War of 1812, was so called, because it did not have the respect of the people.

4) The Federalists did not want to aquire Canada, because it would simply add more agrarian states to the union. If we got Canada though, we would have more land that we needed to keep the economy going. Additionally, it would lesser the threat of a British attack. Finally, it would, according to the frontiersman, eliminate the funds toward the dangerous Indian element.,

5) France wanted us to go to war. The Jeffersonians wanted us to go to war. Both of these groups are trying to help France, while hinder England.

6) The Federalists were eager to not start a war for four reasons. First, they didn't want to harm their economy. They didn't feel that impressment was a serious crime. There was some resentment toward the loyalty to the French. Finally, they did not want Canada. This practically created a treasonous state in New England as the people opposed Mr. Madison's War.

7) America had no way to transfer the power and messages from one base to another. America was incredibly unorganized.

8) The immediate consequences of war were the end of impressment. Longterm involved a longstanding peace with France and Great Britain.

9) America proved that if the were simply luck in the Revolutionary war, their luck would be maintained. The War of 1812 showed that the US was not an eas country to be pushed around, but a force to be reckoned with.
