Your final report will put forth a short policy memorandum on a
topic that has already been discussed on class several occasions. Following
Brown, we have identified three themes:
- Energy and climate
- Social policy
- Natural capital.
We agreed on several guidelines at our class meeting of December
4:
- The report will be 5 to 6 double-spaced pages, but can range
between 4 and 8 pages, depending on the circumstances and your judgment. Use
12-point font.
- The report, composed as a memorandum to me as team leader, will
include the title on the "Re:" line, as explained in class on December 4.
- The report will use the format of lists, either numbered or, as
here, indicated with a bullet, and headers, typically levels one through three.
The report must be concise and directly to the point
- You should use at least four references and can include
a link in your electronic document to any internet site referenced.
- Use either MLA or APA style rules, but remain consistent.
- The report will be distributed electronically as an attachment
to an email to me at whayes@ramapo.edu. If this is problematic, you can deliver
a printed version by 6:00 PM on December 18. Otherwise, slip it under my office
door at G-231 -- but keep a spare for yourself. Do not save as a .docx file,
but as a .doc file.
The report will be graded on three criteria, each weighed at eight
points:
- Content
- Depth
- Coherence.
Thus, each report could earn a maximum of 24 points rather than the
original 20 points indicated in the syllabus -- a bonus of 4 points.
I intend to publish outstanding reports to a web site or a wiki for
inspection by others in the field of sustainability. So, if you are so
published, an A grade is guaranteed.
I have encouraged you to send me a theme paragraph in advance.
Theme paragraphs should be sent well before our class of December 11.
