About the Club

There are over 3000 ISU alumni, and over 600 members of the ISU Alumni Association in the greater Bay area. Although we cover a large geography crossed by some busy highways, those who attend our events always have a good time and meet new people. The local club is funded by the University, based on the number of Alumni Association members living in the area, so I encourage you to stay on as a member of the association!

Communication - email & web page

To keep costs in line, and for the most simple communication, we do keep as extensive an email list as possible of local ISU alums. If you are not sure if you are on this list or not, just send a quick email to sfbay_isu_alum@geocities.com , and we'll make sure you are. We also started a web page in early 1998. If you are reading this, you have found it! It has also served to help us communicate more broadly with the Bay Area alums and get people in touch with each other in a new way. We are seeing it being used more and more for information exchange and introductions. Check out the Guestbook, and add a line or two about yourself! Note that we are leaving the Guestbook fairly free-form, with room for people to use it for intros, buy/sell ads, job-seekers, etc.

Typical Events

We typically have events every year around ISU/Iowa football and basketball games, with special get-togethers if the Cyclones get into a special tournament. We also plan for a larger event in the fall and spring, which we target for a weekend so the commute time can be minimized. Many of these functions are family-friendly, but are always good for adult singles and couples. These larger events are announced via mailing to the Alumni Association members. Then, sprinkled around the year are social hours, usually held after work during the week. These are announced by email only, and all our events will also be posted on the web page.

Past & Future Events

In years past we held a large Saturday night function at the San Jose Sharks arena, where we had dinner, socializing, prizes and the Sharks game in a reserved area of the arena. There were 50 ISUers and guests, and all had a great time. We also were part of the first ever Big 12 picnic, which was held at the Oakland A's coliseum, with food, drink, socializing, and the game in a reserved area.
