Catherine's Unofficial Campus tour . . .

So, now that I've hooked you, you're probably ready for a little tour of campus. I'll warn you now that you're about to experience the Unofficial Mount Allison Campus tour: none of that prepolished, MacLean's friendly, University Prospectus type, "Gee ain't we squeaky clean" content to be found here. I am in no means representing the university in an official capacity (but that's why it's an unofficial tour, right?) Still, I should add the disclaimer that I am an unabashed lover of this school, despite its numerous flaws and idiosyncracies. So, If you think your stomach can handle it, I'll start you off now.
So, here you have a nice little map showing just where in the heck the town of Sackville is located. I realize that this won't be of much help to anyone unfamiliar with Canadian Geography, but the part not shaded in yellow is the Eastern Coast of the United States, so you might have a little better luck visualizing with that.

Mount Allison University is located just under that little red I - our new, administration-approved (X envy) logo. I'm sure they paid a lot of money to some Upper Canadian consultant company to have the logo made, so you should be suitably in awe at this moment. Okay, enough awe.

Sackville is a small (I mean, we're talking really small) community in New Brunswick, near the border with Nova Scotia. This places us in the Maritime region of Canada. As far as the weather is concerned, I would describe it as highly variable (practically never the same two days in a row)and very windy. Make sure you bring a raincoat (as we get a lot of it) and lots of winter clothing (as we're located on the "snowbelt"). It's not uncommon to be wading through knee high snow (after snowstorms) through the months of January and February. Luckily, although we do get lots of snow, the temperatures tend to stay pretty mild compared to the inland regions of Canada. (In the mid-teens below zero (celcius) most of the time during the coldest months.) For a frame of reference, you can check out today's weather in the nearby city of Moncton by jumping to my weather page

Sackville's three impressive features, in my opinion, are (a) the fact that there is only one stoplight in the whole town, (b) the waterfowl park through the Tantramar marsh which is beautiful all year long, and a good place to escape from the stresses of school, and finally (c) the fact that we students get to practically run the place during the school year. Sackville's downtown core has a Save-Easy, Liquor Commission (you're legal if you have an id that says you're 19), Tim Horton's, Dollar store, several pizza joints, Subway, Mel's (coffee, smokes and porn type corner store), Vogue cinema, Home Hardware, bakery,Movie store, drugstore, bookstore, and Royal and Scotia Banks (with Instatellers) and small town post office. The downtown area is a stone's throw from campus.

If you're concerned about fastfood, we've got Wendy's, Tim Horton's, McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Subway, Greco Pizza, and several homestyle restaurants not too far away. Now, I'll lead you onto campus itself. 1
