1996 Solo-Baric Performance Enhancements
Rigid
speaker frame (cast aluminum on Solo-Baric, steel on Competition, Freeair,
and XPL) provides precision alignment and dependable motor structure support.
One-piece
extended pole, a Stillwater Designs innovation, protects voice coils and
provides a broad, symmetrical magnetic field for superior power handling,
precise voice coil control, and very low distortion at deep bass frequencies.
Venting the pole piece eliminates noise and distortion caused by the huge
amounts of airflow created by the cone excursion. UniPlate™
construction combines the backplate and extended pole piece in a single
unit to maximize magnetic efficiency and minimize alignment problems often
caused by common two-piece construction. Black
plating on Uniplate and top plate provides maximum heat dissipation for
cool operation and extended voice coil life.
Deep
bumped back plate lets voice coil reach maximum excursion without bottoming-out.
Advanced
cone material with superior internal damping means ultra-fast transient
response and incredibly low distortion. The cone is also very resistant
to heat, sunlight, moisture, and pollution. Inverted
Structural Dome (ISD™), a KICKER exclusive, replaces the conventional dustcap
and locks positively into the cone. The ISD assembly creates unmatched
structural integrity and greatly inhibits flexing and cone resonance. Tough,
flexible cone surround with long-throw, positive-roll design controls extreme
cone excursions and is highly tear-resistant.
Double-stitched
cone/surround attachment makes separation between the reinforced cone edge
and heavy-duty surround virtually impossible. Voice
coil and Kapton former create a superior magnetic field and effectively
dissipate heat. Double apex coil/cone attachment prevents separation. Durable
resin-impregnated poly-cotton spider's provides precise coil alignment
and critical control of cone motion. Heavy-duty
connection terminals with built-in strain relief prevent speaker lead breakage
and improve flex life of the high-power speaker leads. Rubberized
boot protects massive magnet structure from chipping or breaking. Front
and rear gaskets insure an airtight seal.
