Line of the Kings of Castile and Leon

(1) Ferdinand II, King of Leon, born August 17th, 1171. Died September 24th, 1230. Son of Alfonso VII and Berenguela. Married Urraca of Portugal and had son Alfonso. (2) Alfonso IX, King of Leon, born August 15th, 1171. Died September 24th, 1230. Son of Ferdinand and Urraca. Married Berengaria, Queen of Castile and had son Ferdiand. (3) St.Ferdinand III, King of Castile and Leon, born 1199. Died May 20th, 1252. Son of Alfonso and Berengaria. Married Johanna, Countess of Ponthieu and had daughter Eleanor. (4) Eleanor of Castile, born 1244, died November 24th, 1290. Daughter of Ferdinand and Johanna. Married Edward I Plantagenet. She died while on her way to join her husband, who was waging war agaisnt the Scots. Edward I was grief-stricken, and it was for her the famous Eleanor Crosses were built.
