FITZ-WARIN |
(1) Warin of Metz, born 1078, died 1115. Married Malet Peverel and had son Fulk. Warin, formerly Sheriff of Gloucester and counselor to the Earl of Shrewsbury, heard that Malet, the daughter of William, a valiant knight, had resolved to marry none but a knight of great prowess. Warin took up the challenge of winning the lady, and besting a Prince of Scotland and a Baron of Burgundy, obtained both Malet and the manor of Whittington. (2) Fulk I Fitz-Warin, born 1108. Died 1171. Son of Warin and Malet. Married Eva (surname unknown) and had son Fulk. (3) Sir Fulk II Fitz-Warin, born 1138. Died 1195. Son of Fulk and Eva. Married Hawise de Dinham (daughter of Josce de Dinham) and had son Fulk. Fulk was under the tutelage of Sir Josce de Dinham when he fell in love with and married Josce's daughter Hawise, then proceeding with her father to Ireland to aid in the war agaisnt Walter de Lacie. In 1122 Fulk was constituted lieutent of the Marches of Wales. Of this man it is said that he had a falling out with Prince John (King Henry's son) over a game of chess, and after the prince had thrown the chessboard at him, he returned the attack so violently he nearly killed his opponent. (4) Fulk III Fitz-Warin, born 1165, died 1250. Son of Fulk and Hawise. Married Maud le Vavasour and had son Fulk. (5) Fulk IV Fitz-Warin, born 1210. Died May 14th, 1264 t Battle of Lewes. Son of Fulk and Maud. Married Constance de Toeni (born about 1220, daughter of Ralph VI and had daughter Mabel. Fulk was attempting to escape the Battle when he drowned in the river Ouse. (6) Mabel Fitz-Warine, born 1245, died 1297. Daughter of Fulk and Constance. Married John de Tregoz. |
