A young girl named Sakura, our protagonist, is chosen by fate to be a card captor. One day, while she was home alone, she heard strange sounds coming from her basement. Walking down slowly, she grabbed her baton. Creeping slowly down the stairs she discovered a book that was mysteriously glowing, and strangely she wasn't scared. She reached out to take the book. The book's seal suddenly popped open surprising her, carefully she opened the book and found a stack of cards, she lifted up the top card and reads out the name, "Windy." A sudden spin of wind came blowing in the basement. The cards scattered everywhere, shooting out like fireworks escaping the house. The flew into different places in Japan, leaving her with only Windy. Shocked by this, Sakura looked at the book again, it started to glow and Cerberus, the guardian of the clow book, awakened. Cerberus was shocked, finding out that Sakura had let all the cards escape. He then decided to appoint her as a card captor, to capture all the cards back and to not allow the cards to cause chaos in the city of Japan.

After a tiring day of capturing the Fly card in the first episode, we then meet Tomoyo. Tomoyo, Sakura's best friend, shows Sakura what she had captured on tape last night, the night Sakura caught Fly. Sakura looked and stared blankly at the screen, screamed in surprise that her secret was already out. All of a sudden, Cerberus popped out of Sakura's backpack, Tomoyo and Kero quickly became friends. Tomoyo then joined Sakura to help her to video tape her captures and to design and make her costumes for card capturing.

Sakura lives only with her father, Fujitaka, who is an archaeology professor and her older brother, Touya. Her father is devoted and is extremely busy with his job, so he's frequently not around in the house. Sakura has already became a very responsible young girl who helps out with the household chores. Sakura's mother, Nadeshiko, died when she was very young, so Fujitaka is the only parent she's ever known. She loves him very much, and when her father works hard she is very proud of him. Even though she never had met her mother before, she loves her very much, she occasionally passes by her mothers picture and says "hello" to it every morning. She likes to think that her mother was watching her and according to Touya it's true. Touya is a typical older brother that enjoys tormenting his sister, because of this, Sakura dreams to get back at Touya one day when she grows up. Even though Touya likes to tease Sakura, Sakura cares deeply for her brother and would do a lot to help him.

Sakura is very afraid of ghosts, and Touya was the one who caused this fear. Touya used to tell her ghost stories when she was little, which built up in Sakura, which caused her to be afraid. Sakura is a bit of a crybaby at times, but she gets up from her fear and fights the when understanding the importance of what her mission is.

Her magical ability is to foretell, she would occasionally have strange dreams of her future, which is pretty close to Touya's ability to see spirits.

Sakura is very athletic, she is an energetic type of girl. Her favourite sports are running and gymnastics. Most races are won by Sakura and she attendeds cheerleading for the school, though she always misses the baton when she zones out and it always lands on her forehead.

She makes friends quickly, and she tries to make friends with everyone she encounters even if they don't like her at first.
