RAMSEY HOMICIDE DETECTIVE QUITS JOB: "POLITICS SEEMED TO TRUMP JUSTICE"

He Details Flaws, Ineptness, Influence, Within D.A.'s Office In A Letter Sent To Chief and Press.

In a scathing letter sent to his Chief at the Boulder, Colorado, Police Department, DETECTIVE STEVE THOMAS, a lead investigator in the 18-month-long JON BENET RAMSEY homicide, quite his police career after 13 years because of his "belief that the district attorney's office continues to mishandle the Ramsey case."

The full contents of Det. Thomas' very long letter can be seen at:

Thomas originally told superiors that he was leaving the job because of an ailment that required daily medication. He did this to "be gracious in (his) departure," but speculation and rumors apparently led him to tell his true feelings in his letter.

Thomas is now working as a carpenter.

Thomas' letter is one we wished we could have had the nerve to write many times!

Must Prosay repeat the refrain over and over again? The most overwhelming police problem is how experienced, dedicated, officers are made to tow the political line and are used as pawns within their agencies...even at the expense of finding the killer of a 6-year-old child! However, those of us within the criminal "justice" system were quick to recognize the problems this case has had from the beginning. Thomas' letter only confirms to those of us who have watched from a distance that there was certainly more going on behind the scenes inhibiting the police response to this terrible tragedy. We have seen straight through the hollow statements of the District Attorney and his reports of infighting within the ranks of the police. It was (and 'is') politics that's running the investigation.

It has been obvious that there is no interest in solving the murder of Jon Benet. The cops are told to lay low, follow up on dead-end and ridiculous leads, anything so the District Attorney can show some activity on his part, and continued "problems" with the Bolder Police. This allows the blame to be put on the cops, rather than where the it belongs. It also appears that there is a need to protect someone, as well as the hopes of saving the political hide of the DA.

Whether it is in Boulder, Colorado, Washington, D.C., or Crown Heights, Brooklyn, the politicians believe ALL problems can hopefully disappear, if the Pawns are manipulated with the proper political skills.

The Ramsey case is one of few that becomes public.

UPDATE:

COLORADO GOVERNOR SEEKS "ADVICE" ON WHETHER "SPECIAL PROSECUTOR" IS NECESSARY, AS A RESULT OF DET'S LETTER...

Apparently unable to make a decision, and failing to recognize that there has been enough damage done to the whole Ramsey investigation, Colorado Governor, Democratic National Committee Chaiman, and Clinton apologist, ROY ROMER has come down squarely on the fence for appointing a Special Prosecutor, by delegating a committee of four local District Attorney's to make that decision for him. Apparently, Governor Romer is attempting to determine if there can be a bi-partisan way of investigating the violent death of a 6-year-old child. This is as a result of the letter written by former Detective STEVE THOMAS.

In addition to reporting the above, the on-line edition of Boulder's DAILY CAMERA reminds its readers that the recent head of the Ramsey investigation, MARK BECKNER, was rewarded for doing such a fine job on Boulder's only homicide in 1996, that he has been promoted to Chief of the Boulder Police. It is to Beckner that the Det. Thomas' letter is written.

This is "Small Town, U.S.A." police work at its finest! The politicians protecting their flanks (and, quite possibly, the perpertrator) at all cost! But with the subtleness of a train wreck! But those of us "back East" see this type of thing day in, and day out. Low-balling heavy investigations, superiors being rewarded for inferior police work (also known as "not rocking the boat..."), politicians blaming everyone not connected with the caper.

It is apparent to Prosay that the folders for the investigation into the death of this little girl will be placed on the desk of some Boulder detective many years from now, and the politicians will wave the case in front of the cameras to show their concern for the little girl that died in her own home and promise to solve the case right after their re-election. It will eventually be unceremoniously closed for being "too cold" to do anything with...just like Jon Benet.
