well, here are some nice stories Microsoft, things that Microsoft doesn't want you to know
Lately, DOJ and another 20 states filled an anti-trust suit against Microsoft in order to force them not to force PC makers to install Microsoft's internet browser together with Windows computers, and to allow companies to make change in the start-up opening screen.also, if they want to distrub windows with their own browser, they also must put in alternative browsers as well such as Netscape
Bill Gates of course got mad on it.he said that requiring Microsoft to put Netscape if they put Internet Explorer in like requiring Coca-Cola to put three cans of pepsi out of sixth cans they sell
However, we have to remember that Microsoft is a monopolist, and we should prevent from monopolies from taking over other markets in any price
More than that, i think that DOJ should force Microsoft to work with a few other companies in order to make a one, standard executable file type that will prevent a situation where a company in a monopolist just because of good marketing
According to The Support Group for People Used by Microsoft
Microsoft was having a plan to improve it's image in the public, not by an advertising blitz, but by paying people to write positive letters about Microsoft for computer magazinesMicrosoft denied, but than admitted that they had a plan but it was just a proposal and not something they are really going do to
That's right, after it was exposed, Microsoft will not use, but even if it was a proposal only, how can a major company to even write such a plan on the paper?
I knew that it will happen one day.while Bill Gates demonstrated to the world the new capabilities of Memphis(Windows 98), it suddenly crashed down.
I admit, I was surprised, but i was not in a shock.Microsoft is well known on their not-so-stable programs, and it was only a matter of time until such thing will happen
Microsoft's slogan in Israel is "One world, one language".this slogan is probably the Microsoftic dream.a world where everything is operated and controlled by Microsoft
But this is not what i want to talk about.today, in every computer operated by Windows 95, you'll see the same interface, as set by Microsoft programmers.some will have themes, after they made extra pay for the "Plus" package, but the interface will still be the same interface.unfortuntly, this is also true for Macs.
Now, if you will check computers operated by Linux, you will not see just one interface.some will have a windows like interface, others will have a NextStep interface, others will have a custom interface, and so on, and the same goes for FreeBSD.
What's the reason?well, both Linux and FreeBSD are Operating Systems which are not managed by a commercial companies, but the users themselves.
The source code is available for anybody, features that would be recorded as a patent on a commercial company, are full exposed to the public, and this way they can be improved, bugs are being fixed faster, and everybody enjoy it
in a short, commercial software create a new type of dictatorship, a mental dictatorship, while free software liberates the man
For a long time a small company named as Caldera is suing Microsoft for using unfair tactic during the DOS competition era
This was on the days that Microsoft did not release any new version of MS-DOS, and MS-DOS 3.33 was kind of obsolete.then, Digital Research have released their own version of dos, DR-DOS,(DR-DOS was later bought by Novell, and later Caldera bought DR-DOS from Novell) that was quite popular. Microsoft striked back with MS-DOS 4, but MS-DOS 4 was full with bugs and other problems
Now, Microsoft couldn't suffer that of course, so they have spread false rumors that the upcoming software, code named as "Windows" will not work with DR-DOS.Digital Research asked from Microsoft for Windows, so they will be able to check what is wrong.Microsoft of course refused
as a result of that many people left DR-DOS, and DR-DOS was doomed
but that's only the start.Microsoft, in order to stop the competition in the DOS market once and for all, have released Windows 4.0 together with DOS 7.0, and called both of them together as Windows 95, and claimed that Windows 4.0 is an OS by itself.however, Caldera have managed to prove that Windows uses some DOS services
however, the court will start only in 1999.the good news are that if Caldera will win, it will open a pendora box, and soon Microsoft will disappear, and Bill Gates will find himself as a simple worker with an average salary and average house
BUT if it won't happen, we will be in some very big troubles
Bill Gates can tell stories until tomorrow.he is lying.Windows 95 is 16-bit.i know, it can run 32-bit programs, but this fact makes no difference. go ahead and call Intel, and ask them if PPro is good for Windows 95.they will tell you no, because windows 95 is mixing 16-bit with 32-bit code, and yes, it is possible.
Windows's swapping system is one of the worst swapping system even written. i remember the days of my 486DX2 8MB with Windows 95.every time i ran netscape, my HD made noises for a few minutes.except for slowing down the system, i believe it made irreversible damage to my HD.i think Microsoft is responsible for at least 40% of the disk crashes in the last 3 years. in Linux for example, on the same hardware made much much less swapping.
Israel has nothing to be proud of.we have a stupid prime-minister, a shobenistic president, and people who think only about money. BUT when bill gates comes and say that Israel is the capital of the software piracy, he should be a shamed. this person has enough money to stop the hunger in the world, and still complain that he doesn't have enough.
test that were tested to Memphis, showed that Memphis is even SLOWER than the most famous cpu eater, win95.so, the customer will pay more money, Microsoft will make more profit, and as a result of the slower speed of Memphis, faster and better processors will be required, and more memory of course.so, if Microsoft will continue that way, a powerful chip like Alpha 600Mhz, which is only required in some very rare cases of 3D rendering or something similar, will be used for word processing., and not only because Word will become slower, but also because the environment itself will be slower!
Microsoft claims that NTFS is the safest file system in the world.they also admitted that if have a floppy drive,it is a problem, because you can read NTFS from dos using a special program. now,Microsoft forgot one thing.this safety level exist on my Linux machine. worse.according to reports i got from people who worked with nt,NTFS is the slowest fs on earth, because of the "security",but i can't verify that.
many people think that Java is "a programming language for the inet". but Java is more than that.Java actually allows you to program, for example,on OS/2,and disturb it,and it will run EVERYWHERE.that means that you don't have to use Microsoft's OS in order to run red alert,or tie vs xwing.
Microsoft doesn't like it,and Microsoft decided to write their own Java, but,Microsoft's Java will be LIMITED FOR WINDOWS ONLY.the whole idea of Java is "compile here, run everywhere". if Java will be used by most programmers, many people will buy os/2,or use Linux,or other OS,and NOONE will use windows, because who needs windows when there are alternatives;-)
as we all know,Microsoft made the "directX" technology for win95,and this technology is supposed to improve the performance of win95 games, and today most of win95's games use it. BUT this technology is a memory and cpu eater.proofs: a.it's a fact that in games that have both win95 and dos version, the system requirements on the win95 version are MUCH higher. b.when i had win95 installed,i installed a demo of rebel assault 2 for win95. i used DirectX,and the demo was very slow on my 486dx2 8MB,with pauses frequently, and whenever i touched the mouse. rebel assault 1,BTW,worked just fine on a poor 386. c.today i download a NES(Nintendo Entertainment System)emulator.it had both dos and win95 version.there were no memory requirements for dos,but the win95 version, that uses DirectX of course, requires 16MB minimum
well, actually it's very simple.it just trashes you FAT.for example, let's say you have a file name like that:"this_is_a_fat_trasher".win95 will allocate two file-name entries:one will be:"this_is_.a_f"and the second one will have a special attribute so programs will ignore it.it will be:"at_trash.er" and win95 will show you both as one filename.the problem is that in the root directory you have a limit of 512 file entries,so,it may cause a lot of troubles, and also,in big HD it may cause to a lot of waste.
it has been reported by a few people that for some kind of reason, the uninstall program of Microsoft's Internet Exploder 3.0 doesn't work.i doubt that Microsoft were so stupid so they couldn't write a normal uninstall program.i suspect that Microsoft did a non-working uninstall program so people will continue to use their program.i hope that it was the programmer's fault, but Microsoft aren't THAT stupid.
actually,win95 is running on dos.although you see these "clouds" on startup, behind those "clouds" config.sys and autoexec.bat run,and it's still the old 16-bit real mode OS(called dos).then you see a moron-friendly(tm) GUI,and you think that win95 is an OS. that's very interesting, and i suspect that win95 needs dos services in order to run,and that's means: a.less speed b.less stability
win95 is still works on dos's FS(File System),that if you don't know,it's name if FAT. now,how does FAT work? well,FAT is a very very very primitive FS.in order to locate the files,it uses 16bit addressing, which means that in FAT there is a limit of 65536 clusters(clusters are blocks of data, any file has a number of clusters.as the file size grows, the number of it's clusters grows) generally,a cluster size was once 512b,but because of the files number limit, you couldn't use that size on HD which are bigger than 32MB. but,Microsoft found a "solution".they allowed bigger cluster sizes, which means that a file that catches, for example,400b,instead of having 512b allocated, they had 1024b. now, that's not so bad,but as HD became bigger and bigger, the wasted space became bigger as well.on my 1.6GB i had a waste of almost 800MB,which means 50%. now,for some kind of reason,Microsoft don't use HPFS,which is a modern FS developed by IBM and Microsoft.instead, they found a funny solution:"fat32". beside of reducing the waste(at last),fat32 has nothing new.there isn't real long names support, and there isn't Anti-fragment code, and I'm not talking about speed(features that every modern FS like Ext2 and HPFS has)
the real problem on win95's multitasking is the fact that win95 suppose that the application you are in it is the most important one.if you format a floppy, and then move to excel for example, the disk formatting will take much longer.in normal OS,the formatting process will get the same attention as word, and also,in normal OS you can tell to the system to give more attention to the formatting process, even if it runs on background!!
