The Purpose of the Assessment
The Purpose of Task IV is to assess how well students are able to:
- interpret a statement about literature( critical lens)
- select two works of literature they have read in class that support their interpretation of the lens;
- write a position paper that presents their interpretation and opinion of the lens, supported with references to the works of literature read in class.
This task provides us with information about how well students are able to analyze and evaluate works of literature and how well they are able to produce a well-supported position paper (Standard 4: Reading and Writing for Critical Analysis and Evaluation).

The statement can be applied to a broad of texts and genres
