Guidelines for Portfolios across the Disciplines

  1. Portfolio: The portfolio should be the type with pockets, in order to safeguard your work.
  2. Cover: Each portfolio cover should contain the following identifying information::

Your name

School

Class designation

Teacher

Date

The work inside is the most important; you should still feel encouraged to decorate your covers creatively.

  1. Table of Contents: Each portfolio should contain a Table of Contents, listing the various items inside as well as the page numbers for easy reference.
  1. briefly annotated--commented on
  2. anything that you feel represents you
  3. work of different genres(journal entries, poetry, imaginative dialogue,, research paper, creative writing pieces, academic writing samples,all the new Regents writing samples,literary analysis writing, other creative writing pieces-Intelligence Report, News Account, persuasive essay, debate essay, book report on outside reading using the required format)
  4. an written piece with artistic illustrations
  5. The pieces the can present personal reactions, such as," most pleasing piece," "my most challenging piece," "my easiest piece."
  6. A final work of yours with the unedited first draft, revised first draft, and other revised drafts showing the corrections, which demonstrates that writing is a process
  7. In addition to the above-mentioned required pieces, you can also include family pictures, collages, favorite quotes, poems you read and write outside the class, original artwork,
  8. The best piece with a rationale, the piece you're most proud of(with brief explanation),the piece which show most efforts(with brief explanation),

 

  1. . Self-Evaluative Introduction: All portfolios must contain either a "Dear Reader" or Biographical Introduction of 250 words or more.
  1. -The "Dear Reader" letter should clarify for the reader your goals as a writer and the feelings and attitudes experienced while creating the individual works and finally putting them together;
  2. -The description of your feelings and thoughts while you were rereading your writings which tells the reader how proud you are or how meaningful it is for you to see yourself grow as a writer;
  3. -Comments on the most meaningful piece(s) and explain briefly.
  4. -Explain the motivation and intentions or purpose of your choice; describe what the compilation of the work in the portfolio say

about you, and how it reflects you as a person and a writer.

v. - Self evaluation

  1. Student work: Portfolios should contain at least 5-10(more) of your best writing samples. The pieces chosen should be revised and typed on 81/2 by 11 paper.

6.The Arts or STC should be incorporated into your English portfolio. Here some ideas for the possible assignment:

--A graphic illustration of a piece of writing;

--An enlarged piece of writing for a wall presentations

--A piece of art work;

--An audio presentation;

--A video presentation

  1. Conclusion: Write a conclusion of 250 words or more. Note that this is optional with a "Dear Reader", but required with a Biographical Introduction.
