
Lesson Plan 1: Historical Caesar

Objectives
My educational goals:
The following two part lesson is designed to assist students to build up the necessary historical background knowledge about the ancient Rome, its constitution, its people, and its influence on western culture; in addition, they will also have a good understanding of the historical figure, Caesar, his career, his importance at the end of the Republic.

Procedures:
- Begin class with a brief discussion about the ancient Rome and Caesar based on their knowledge.
- Ask the students to make 8 questions, four on Rome and four on Caesar. and write down the questions in their homepage they would like to know the answer for about Rome and Caesar.
- Start browsing the sites provided. Read as much as they can, take notes to answer the questions. Summarize the information they get from the sites.
- Organize the words and edit their answer on the webpage.
- Visit classmates' site to share with each the information about Rome and Caesar.
- Organize the notes into a report on the ancient Rome and Caesar.
Non-Internet activities:
Oral discussion
Orally sharing their thoughts on the constitution of the ancient Rome and Caesar as a historical person
Internet Activities:
- Locate information
- Share information
- Write a report:Pretend they are the news reporter of the Roman Tribune and are asked to write a report about the current political system of Rome with personal comment, and the most remarkable achievements of Caesar's.
Set-up time required: 10 minutes
Class time required: 60 minutes
Problems/Issues that may be encountered:
- Students might go astray from the task and become attracted by other sites.
- It may take too long before the sites are open.
Solutions/workarounds
Set up a rule in the class, i.e. if someone is not visiting the sites provided, he may not be able to work on the line for a week as a penalty.
Use the time for oral discussion.
Assessment measures: presentation of the project
Follow-up activities/extentions: When readindg Julius Caesar, they will compare the historical Caesar and the charater, Caesar.
