An Indonesian student representative from Mercubuana University offers a bouquet of flowers to military officers at the entrance gate of the state secretariat headquarters, a complex adjoining the Merdeka Presidential Palace in Jakarta 24 April. Some 30 students from the private university came by bus to hand a declaration to Indonesian President Suharto through the state secretariat. The declaration contained calls for immediate reforms and lower prices, but the students were detained at the gate and only two were later allowed to meet with officials.* |
