Women's Cross Country Places 13th At NCAA Regional Meet
Christine Thompson leads Falcons in Great Lakes Region Championships.

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Bowling Green State University women's cross country team posted a 13th-place finish at the 2000 NCAA Division I Great Lakes Region Championships Saturday (Nov. 11). The Falcons had a team total of 332 points in the 31-team race, which was held in Ypsilanti, Mich.
Individually, senior Christine Thompson was the Falcons' top finisher. She placed 36th in the 217-woman race, finishing in a time of 22:13.0. Sophomore Joy Echler was 43rd in a time of 22:16.8, while freshman Amber Culp was 56th in a 22:23.7 time.
Other BGSU competitors included freshman Jordan Hartmann (80th, 22:47.2), sophomore Briana Killian (124th, 23:25.6), senior Lisa Mariea (131st, 23:33.8) and junior Lisa Schroeder (166th, 24:17.0).
The University of Wisconsin captured the team title with 65 points, outdistancing second-place Michigan (113 points). Individually, UW junior Erica Palmer won the race in a time of 20:17.1.
Women's Cross Country Places Ninth At League Meet
Thompson is 17th individually at MAC Championships in Kalamazoo.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Bowling Green State University women's cross country team posted a ninth-place finish at the Mid-American Conference Championship Saturday (Oct. 28). The event, hosted by Western Michigan University, was held at Pine View Golf Club.
Central Michigan won the 13-team meet with a team score of 78 points, outperforming second-place Ball State by a single point. The Falcons of head coach Cami Wells had a team total of 188 points.
Individually, senior Christine Thompson was the Falcons' top finisher in the 100-woman race. Thompson placed 17th overall in a time of 18:12.
Sophomore Joy Echler crossed the line six seconds after Thompson, placing 22nd. Freshman Amber Culp was 38th in a time of 18:31.
Also competing for the Brown and Orange: Freshman Jordan Hartmann (18:51, 52nd), senior Lisa Mariea (19:00, 62nd), sophomore Briana Killian (19:08, 67th), junior Lisa Schroeder (19:20, 74th) and sophomore Erin Croley (19:48, 83rd).
Toledo's Tuula Laitinen won the race, finishing in an even 17 minutes.
Women's Cross Country Fourth At All-Ohio Championships
Joy Echler places seventh overall; Falcons now prepare for MAC meet.

DELAWARE, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's cross country team recorded a fourth-place finish at Friday's (Oct. 13) All-Ohio Championships. The race, which generally features nearly every college and university in the state, was held in Delaware, Ohio.
The Falcons had a team score of 131 points to trail only Kent State (77), Ohio (85) and Akron (107) in the 36-team race.
Malone's Everlyne Lagat was the individual winner among the 249 competitors. Sophomore Joy Echler was the Falcons' top finisher, placing seventh in a time of 19:35.
Senior Christine Thompson, the second Falcon to cross the line, was 11th in a time of 19:41. Freshmen Jordan Hartmann and Amber Culp were 32nd and 33rd, respectively, as Hartmann crossed the line in 20:19, followed one second later by Culp.
BG's fifth finisher was senior Lisa Mariea, who placed 48th overall. Sophomores Erin Croley (58th) and Briana Killian (59th) also competed in the race for the Brown and Orange.
The Falcons are now idle from competition until Saturday, Oct. 28, when the team heads to Kalamazoo, Mich., for the Mid-American Conference Championship. Start time for that race is scheduled for noon.
Women's Cross Country Places 18th At Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Bowling Green State University women's cross country team posted an 18th-place finish at the Notre Dame Cross Country Invitational Friday (Oct. 7). BGSU had a team total of 511 points in the 31-team race.
Sophomore Joy Echler was BGSU's top finisher for the fifth time in as many races, placing 39th in the 232-runner competition with a time of 18:08. Senior Christine Thompson was 60th overall in a time of 18:23.
Other BGSU competitors included Amber Culp (18:57, 123rd), Jordan Hartmann (19:09, 144th), Briana Killian (19:34, 175th), Lisa Schroeder (19:44, 181st) and Erin Croley (19:48, 184th).
BGSU will return to action next Friday (Oct. 13) afternoon. On that date, the Falcons of head coach Cami Wells will head to Delaware, Ohio, for the All-Ohio Championship.

Race featured 13 nationally-ranked teams.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Bowling Green State University women's cross country team posted a 22nd-place finish at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational Saturday (Sept. 23). Host Minnesota won the 29-team race, which featured a total of 13 teams listed in the most recent FinishLynx Top 25 poll.
For the Brown and Orange, sophomore Joy Echler led the way, placing 50th in a field of 239 runners with a time of 22:13. Senior Christine Thompson crossed the line in a time of 22:39 to finish 85th overall.
Other Falcon placers included freshman Jordan Hartmann (23:13, 126th), senior Lisa Mariea (23:30, 144th), sophomore Briana Killian (23:37, 151st), freshman Amber Culp (23:50, 160th) and sophomore Erin Croley (24:03, 166th). Junior Lisa Schroeder (24:52) was the eighth finisher for the Brown and Orange.
Arizona's Tara Chaplin was the individual winner, crossing the line in an even 21 minutes.
The 13th-ranked Golden Gophers won the race with a team total of 98 points. Yale finished second with 127 points. In addition to Minnesota, other teams listed among the nation's top 25 schools include seventh-ranked Arizona State, No. 11 Providence, No. 12 Oregon, No. 15 Colorado State, No. 21 Missouri, No. 23 Marquette and No. 25 Wake Forest.
The BGSU women of head coach Cami Wells are idle until heading to Indiana for the Notre Dame Invitational on October 6.
Women's Cross Country Places Third At Mel Brodt Invitational

The Bowling Green State University women's cross country team placed third in the 11-team Mel Brodt Invitational Saturday morning at BGSU.
The Falcons finished with 76 points as Toledo won the invitational with a team score of 31. Central Michigan was second with 43 points. Following BG were Cincinnati (84), Wright State (111), Xavier (168), Findlay (174), Ohio Northern (183), Windsor (201), Siena Heights (220) and Cleveland State (272).
Leading the way for BG was sophomore Joy Echler (Montpelier, Ohio) who placed fifth in a time of 18:11. Other top performances for the Falcons were turned in by senior Christine Thompson (Amherst, Ohio/Steele) who placed 13th (18:31), freshman Jordan Hartmann (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) who placed 16th (18:59), senior Lisa Mariea (Toledo, Ohio/Start) who placed 21st (19:07), sophomore Briana Killian (Englewood, Ohio/Northmont) who placed 30th (19:39), sophomore Erin Croley (Laura, Ohio/Milton-Union) who placed 31st (19:39) and freshman Amber Culp (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) who placed 32nd (19:41).
The next meet for BG will be on Sept. 23 in Minneapolis at the Roy Griak Invitational.
