Good news! I think the good guys may actually have won the battle in
Michigan. Sen. Shugar's concert rating bill came up for a vote in the MI
Senate yesterday and was defeated 17 to 15. There was heated debate and
opposition to the bill on the floor. This from the same Senate that felt
the bill would surely pass earlier this year.

The bill has been sent back to the original committee for more amendments.
Shugar's office is mentioning things like putting the RIAA's labels on
concert tickets but it is unlikely this will come to pass. There can't be
a hearing on the bill until September at the earliest and Shugar's is up
for a difficult re-election campaign this summer.

None of this would have happened without the letters written by you and the
artists who spoke out for free expression. Thanks to Pearl Jam, No Doubt,
Ted Nugent, Rancid, Lenny Kravitz and Rob Zombie . And a huge thanks to
all the Mass. M.I.C. members who wrote to Michigan.
Sincerely,
Nina Crowley
