Ok, no one else is going to do this so I guess I'll be the first. This is a counter to "Welfare" by nick. I
didn't really agree with all of the essay so I'm just going to go through his essay and make my points
and support them. So the intro stops here.
So you say we should get rid of the rule to go to school and just stay home and collect welfare?
What would be the point of that? If they got rid of the rule of going to school, sure, it'd cut down on
violence at school, it'd be all out on the streets. If the government did away with this law, the cost of
welfare would go up, violence would go up, drug use would go up and the economy would start it's
decline as uneducated children are introduced into the work force. Without school, the government
would have to support the people more then they already do. So making school mandatory is the
only way to keep kids in. Even though it seems dumb, it is a good law. Maybe it doesn't seem that
way at the time you're in school but later, you'll know it is. And it's that kind of mentality, "getting
welfare and setting on their asses while get money for being lousy fuck heads", that makes welfare
such a "bad" word. In it's creation, welfare was meant to keep a person from becoming homeless if
they lost a job. It's a helping hand when you're down, not a crutch, but people have made it that. Of
course this is the governments fault who are too fucking lazy to go and make sure that welfare is
going to people who are actually trying to get back on their feet.
I never recalled a youth center especially for drug addicts or drunks, as I recall, they were open to
the public. The thing is, people of the middle and upper class have this thing where they are too good
to go to some place like that just cuz the lower class is there. And true, Congress over looks almost
everyone, except for the rich who pull their strings. And sure, everyone can bitch about income tax,
but it's a double sided sword. Not only do you pay a percent of your income, but so does the rich.
The percent is the same, but the more money you make, the more money you pay. And how can it
support the minority? Too many people in this nation are poor. And you can't say that just the poor
do drugs and are drunks. Many people from the middle class do that as well as the upper class.
But of course, the poor are the scapegoat because they contribute the least. And the thing is, the
people that are getting welfare checks aren't trying to get back on their feet, while the people who
could have really used it for two or three months are homeless because someone already took all the
welfare. That's why the government should have each person requesting welfare checked out before
receiving any money. Doing away with welfare would just revert us back to the 1800's in some
ways. If you destroy all programs then it will revert us to the 1800's and employers will work people
harder and longer for lower wages and if you've done away with school, then they'll probably go
back to child labor. by doing this, you'll just take steps backwards. And do away with abortion?
Why? It doesn't matter how the baby ended up in her womb, if the woman wants to abort, she
should be allowed to. Why should we increase the already over populated world? And if the woman
doesn't want the baby, then surely it won't have a good life, unless it gets adopted which may still
lead to problems.
Allow radical groups to overthrow the government? Why? So they can take power? Like the nazi
party? Oh but of course, this nation will improve so much if the Aryan Nation overthrows the
government and starts killing off jews again. Sure, anarchy is a nice thought, but it's not going to
happen. Anarchy will only last so long before one political group will rise to power. Each revolt leads
to a new political power who wants to be in power. Why? Not for the better of the people. Not to
make the world a better place. Simply to be in power. Read "1984". So for once, I'm supporting
the government. Yes, it needs a lot of reform, but if people would stop bitching about taxes and
welfare and start making changes, then the government would function better. I rest my case.
