ZUG

SWISS CANTON (STAND) ZUG

The town of Zug, established in the 112th century, was a possession of the Habsburgs until 1352, when it was conquered by the Swiss Confederation and forced to join it. (1) (1) The Habsburgs only recognized the new situation in 1376 when the Treaty of Torberg was signed. Like the other cantons the city annexed surrounding territories. However unlike elsewhere these territories didn't become dependencies. Following an intervention of the Swiss Diet Zug became, in 1610, a Confederation consistng of : - The city of Zug, responsible for the relation with the Swiss Confederation - The municipalities of Aegeri, Baar and Menzingen. This situation lasted until 1798/1803 when the four units were merged into one state. __________________________________________________________________________________
