GERMAN TERRITORY OF THE WESTMARK

In 1935 the regional NSDAP Gaue of Rheinpfalz and of Saar were merged into the new
NSDAP Gau Saarpfalz. 
Five years later the political administrations of both areas were also merged into
a new adminisrative unit of Saarpfalz, renamed Westmark in 1941. (1)

(1) The original idea of merging this administraive unit of Westmark with the
    Civil Administration area of Lothringen into a great Reichsgau of Westmark
    was never carried out.
