ARGENTINE MILITARY TERRITORY OF COMODORO RIVADAVIA
The town of Comodoro Rivadavia, in the southern part of the National Territory of
Chubut, was founded in 1901.
After the discovery of oil in 1907 it became a major Argentine economic center.
This situation - resulting in an unchecked population growth - and the outbreak of
WWII justified the creation in 1944 of a separate Militar Government encompasing
the town and surrounding lands detached from the National Territories of Chubut and
Santa Cruz.
