CITY OF LISBON

The ancient settlement of Olisipo - already an important center in Roman times - became the town of Lisbon (Lisboa) in the period of Islamic rule. It was captured by the Portuguese in 1147 and became their capital in 1260. It remained so ever since. __________________________________________________________________________________
