The city of Luzern - founded in 1178 and originally part of the possessions of the
Abbey of Murbach - became subject to the Habsburgs in 1291.
In 1332 it became a member of the Swiss Confederacy, although it was only in 1415
that the Habsburgs gave up their last claims.
