SWISS KANTON (STAND) GLARUS

The territory of Glarus, originally a of the Abbey of Säckingen, became subject to the Habsburgs in 1264. In 1351 it was occupied by forces of the Swiss Confederacy, of which it became a member the following year. (1) (1) Habsburg rule was restored in 1355 but, after the battle of Näfels in 1388, Glarus once again joined the Confederacy. __________________________________________________________________________________
