COORG

BRITISH INDIAN PROVINCE OF COORG

The Hindu State of Coorg (Kodagu / Kurg) was founded in the 11th century. It became a British protectorate in 1790. In 1834 its ruler was deposed for reason of "misrule", the territory becoming a Province of British India. The Indian constitutions of 1919 and 1935 confirmed the position of Coorg as a province under direct central rule, without any local autonomy ____________________________________________________________________________
