Central America Education Fund

CAEF is a non-profit organization formed in 1985 to promote the dissemination of information about Central America. Its main project was the Central America Solidarity Association (CASA) and the Spanish Program of CASA. In 1995 CASA expanded its mission to include all of Latin America and the Caribbean, becoming the Latin America and Caribbean Solidarity Association.

The loss of social and political interest in the area which led to the dissolution of groups working in solidarity with social struggles in Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala, left only two functioning committees: the July 26 Coalition in Solidarity with Cuba and Latinas and Latinos for Social Change.  These two groups decided, on January of 1999 to officially close LACASA, since it became an unsustainable project.

However, these groups also decided to continue their work individually, while maintaining the Central America Education Fund working minimally as a basic source of support for their efforts. A new board of directors has been elected and will guide the work of the Fund.
