CAPE TOWN: The opposition Freedom Front of South Africa says it is time
the African National Congress addresses the
underlying racism in its own ranks. In a statement reacting to an A.N.C.
demand for disciplinary action against cricketer Brian
McMillan for allegedly making racist remarks, the F.F. accused the
A.N.C. of using double standards for not reprimanding its
own members for racial slurs. It said the A.N.C. did not reprimand
spokesman Dumisani Makhaye last year when he said
white farmers could only blame themselves if they were murdered. Nor
was there any repudiation for last year's fist fight in
Parliament where A.N.C. members called F.F. members "white dogs" and
shouted, "Beat the boers."
