History - King Faisal II
Faisal II (1935-58), king of Iraq (1939-58), grandson of Faisal I, born in Baghdad, and educated at Harrow School, England. He succeeded to the throne after his father, Ghazi I, died in an automobile accident. During Faisal's long minority, his responsibilities were discharged by a regency. Faisal II formally assumed the throne on May 2, 1953, his 18th birthday. He was assassinated during the coup d'état of July 1958.
