Getting Started
Okay, now you want to know what you can do. You have made a decision to help in some way, and you want to know how, right? Perhaps you are skeptical, not sure what this means. It is really simple actually, and only a few supplies are needed.
Supplies
- A printer
- Paper for the printer, as well as black ink
- A pair of scissors
- Some mint green ribbon
- Hard candies, such as peppermints or butterscotch, individually wrapped pieces (optional)
That's it! Really!
Putting it Together
Click on the link below to go to the plain print page. The page is set up to print 3 paragraphs on each sheet of regular size (8.5"x11")paper. However, this varies from printer to printer. After printing, cut the paper in between paragraphs. Roll each paragragh into a scroll, tie with a green ribbon, and either tie or tape on a piece of hard candy (optional).
What Do I Do With Them?
Put several of them in your purse, backpack or briefcase. Put a few in your car, in your desk drawer at work, in any place where you could possibly be in contact with people and their children.
Then What?
Wait. When you are out shopping, seeing a movie, walking your dog, taking a stroll in the park, or other activity, pay attention to others around you. Is there a mother screaming obscenities at her 5 year old? A mother slapping a toddler in a movie theater? An exasperated mother of 4 in the grocery store yanking on one of the children so hard you are afraid they are going to dislocate the child's arm? Anytime you see a situation like this, or any other time you feel a parent is being abusive, pull out a scroll and smiling, hand it to the parent or caregiver. It isn't necessary to make any comment. Just polietly hand them the scroll. That is all there is to it.
Is That It?
In a word, yes. You can say a prayer, too. In that case, when you hand one out, pray that the parent or caregiver will hear and see the love in the message, and really look at what they are doing. Pray that your gesture has made at least an impact, that you have planted a seed, and that the Goddess/God will indeed protect the most precious gift of all, that of a child.
