When a man is arrested and disappears into the dungeons of the police should not his confession under such terrifying circumstances be viewed with great suspicion? And when he repudiates it with graphic description of torture and intimidation as a free man, what is there left but to throw out the dubious confession from being admitted as evidence? But apparently judge Ariffin Jaka thinks differently. In a ruling which insults the intelligence of every Malaysian he admits Sukma Dermawan's forced confession as evidence against Anwar in the sodomy trial. As an added twist the Attorney-General charged Sukma with perjury for telling the truth.
