Campaign on the Streets of Ayr
Ayr felt the full force of campaigning in the High Street n Satuarday (5th Feb) with the SNP and SSP in the Town Center. The SNP have started the campaing trail running and are now the most active of all. They have been round the shops in the constituence as well as starting the houses. A leaflet drop has started and 'names' have appeared - on Sat it was the man who used to do the weather on STV. Also a phone campaign has started (I've been phoned twice - by mistake the second).
A copy of the leaflet of the SNP is available here Leaflet drop has also been done for the conservatives, with a letter beign deliverd the the core supporters.
On a sunny Satuarday 19th, there was the biggest day of campaigning so far for the people of Ayr. The High Street had camapaigners from the Conservatives, Labour, SNP, SSP and the Greens. Labour had it's hot shots down. John Reid, George Foulkes as well as local MP Sandra Osborne. Its always strange that Labour are the only ones with ballons (the inflatable kind). The Conservaties set up stall at the lower half of the street, Phil Gallie getting quite a responce, even though he's not standing. The SSP had their megaphone out and were competing with a chap singing 'Why does it Always Rain on Me", the Greens had their token stall and were standing there, but campaigning does not seam to be their strong point at the moment. The other notable feature was on Sunday. One man was collecting signitures for the 'Keep the Clause' campaign, and was at times attracting a que. It does seam clear that this will be an issue in the by-election, and in Ayr the feeling is largely against the executive on this one. As this issue will develop in the campaign, you can find more comment and information on this issue here.
The campaign now goes into full swing this week (21st) |
