The Greens are particularly confident of a successful campaign and have been in buoyant mood since last year's Scottish elections when Robin Harper became the first Green MSP. Now the party is seeking to build on its position as Scotland's fifth political party and with the Liberal Democrats "within their sights." Candidate GAVIN CORBETT, a Cumnock-born charity worker, claimed: "The voters of Ayr will quickly get fed up with pundits predicting a two-horse race between New Labour and Tories. "I am confident they will see how pointless it is to send another party hack in a blue or red rosette to Edinburgh." He added: "The footnotes of history will record Ayr as the first ever Scottish Parliamentary by-election. "However, on March 16 voters have a chance to make real history by recording the best Green vote Scotland has ever seen." | ||||||||||
