Indp - Anti-Cloaning |
Candidate: Kevin James Dillon |
This is one of the 'Single Issue' candidates, as often stands at by-elections. The two problems that I can see with this candidate is that firstly, this is not an issue that is on the main stream aenda of pubic opinion at the moment, there is likely to be many others that will be more dominant. The other is that as far as I can make out, this is a reserved matter for Westminster and as such the Scottish Parliament can not do anything about it. As for the background, this issue arises from a few years ago when a Scottish scientist was abl to clone a Sheep and snce then the possibility of being abe to clone humans has ben put on the agenda - though there does seam little likelyhood of it happening in the near future. Whether it matters to the people of Ayr, we will have to see. |

Anti-Cloning candidate KEVIN DILLON is a graduate of the International Institute of Human Rights in Strasbourg and a graduate of politics from Strathclyde University. He believes the developments in cloning techniques which emerged towards the end of the last century will prove the `most dangerous' of the new century. And he maintained it was vital that public awareness about the issue and its potential threat to human rights was raised. He hit out: "The Government maintains it is committed to public consultation on the issue but at a recent seminar only two out the 100 people present claimed to have been involved in consultation at any level - and both of these were directly involved in the cloning debate." | |||||||||||||||
