There have been things happening all around that need to be related. For example :

1. It is a common fact that more and more people are watching satellite TV, especially the Indian concoction known as Zee TV. In fact, Pakistani companies are also advertising on this Channel too. Nowadays, a company making toiletries and owned by an Advisor to the Sindh Chief Minister has a commercial on for its talcum powder. It seems that even the Advisor knows that the official mouthpiece PTV is nothing but a Masala Mix of party propaganda run by the modern day Goebbels, the indomitable HH. This Advisor has accepted the fact that it is more beneficial and sensible to spend his advertising budget on the Indian Channel whose viewers MAY buy his product rather than advertising on PTV. Yup, that’s true !
2. The noted cartoonist Maxim had a jab at the expense of the MPAs of Sindh. In a cartoon published on June 05 in The Nation, he depicted the legislators coming to attend the session in APCs. Maybe next time, they’ll not come at all. Yup, that’s true!
3. In the same issue, Akbar Sial, in his pre-budget analysis, shouts about "the great feudal robbery". He talks of a figure of Rs 30.6 billion which is the amount of windfall profits for the "hapless" landed gentry of Pakistan. This is just for the cotton-growing farmers and is over and above their existing profits. Of course, this is all TAX-FREE ! If they were paying taxes, the Treasury would have been 15 billion smackers rich and the country would not have to borrow or beg that much from external sources. Alas, these farmers and their ilk rule the country and make the rules. Thus S.M.Muneer and his band of industrialists will pay more and more taxes. Yup. that’s true !
4. "No government exists in Karachi" says JUP second-in-command Shah Farid-ul-Haq and reported by Dawn in its June 06 issue." He says that the city is in the grip of mayhem and lawlessness and the personnel of law-enforcement agencies and the administration have disappeared like "mice". This is the second time this animal has been highlighted. First time it was in Kasur where someone announced that the predominant ethnic community residing in Karachi are "rats", albeit "timid". Now Shah Sahib calls the enforcers "mice". Maybe what this city now really needs is the Pied Piper from Hamlin. Yup, that’s true !
5. Another news in the same issue and on the same page is that KDA is in a financial crisis and that the gazzetted officers have not been paid their salaries for May. Naturally, when this Agency becomes a handmaiden for the people in power, when this Agency becomes a nest of corruption, and when this Agency goes about depriving honest citizens of their plots, then there is going to be this scenario. Why don’t these officers get together and sell off, cheaply, the rest of the land under the control of KDA and get their wages plus the added benefits. Yup, that’s true !
6. There is a news item in the News International of June 06. It states that the a NWFP Minister has influenced a prominent Jamaat-e-Islami activist, Haji Rahim Khan of Dir, to join the PPP alongwith hundreds of his supporters. The Minister and the JI activist are sincerely requested to please give the exact number of the supporters, alongwith their names, addresses, and NIC numbers, so that the country can know the complete facts. It would be also appreciated if their previous affiliations are also mentioned because, obviously, they are not all Jamaat members. Yup, that’s true !
7. The evening Star of June 06 reports that the Z.A.Bhutto Mausoleum Fund has been opened with immediate effect. This money will be used to construct the planned Mazar of Quaid-e-Awam. It would have given this Fund a big impetus if the leaders and the hierarchy of PPP announced their personal donations in fairly large amounts first. Most of them are, or have become millionaires and billionaires, mainly due to their association with PPP which is synonymous with the name of ZAB. It is hoped that billions will be collected so that a befitting memorial is erected for this Great Leader. Yup, that’s true !
8. A new phenomena has been witnessed in Cairo, as reported by The Nation in its June 06 issue. It seems that the parents of some children burst into the classroom and sat for an English examination for their children after beating up the invigilators. This can be a precedent for parents of school-going children of Karachi who do not want their children to go out in this tense environment. Maybe this will also make the parents more erudite and knowledgeable. Yup, that’s true !
9. The United States may freeze immigration, according to the June 06 issue of News International. Senator Alan Smith is spearheading this campaign alongwith Congressman Lamar Smith. The proposal is to stop granting immigration to parents, adult children, and siblings of US citizens. This is a pragmatic move by the Great World Power. It will reduce the load on the Embassies and Consulates and will enable them to do constructive work like facilitating American investment in foreign lands, and things like that. Besides, people should stay in their own country and not make a bee-line for the pleasures and benefits in Good Ole US of A. Yup, that’s true !
10. Meanwhile, in Sarhad, the cunning Chief Minister hauled in another fish in his net. According to the same issue, Sardar Jadoon, a PML(N) legislator, jumped the ropes and landed in the company of Sherpao, courtesy Nawaz Khokar, the National Assembly turncoat. The newspaper, in a front page story from Peshawar, states that the Sardar was "visibly embarrassed during the news conference, (and) didn’t even read his written statement and requested Sherpao to do it for him". It seems that the Sardar had a case pending against him in a court of law, a case reminiscent of the Loudmouth from Rawalpindi who is at present confined in a cooler for some time. Why do these legislators so brazenly display Kalashnikovs ? When they have a case registered against them, they either go to jail, or become Lotas, or profess to all and sundry that it is a toy gun. Yup, that’s true !
