OUR, MINE, YOUR, MY FAULTS
I am proud to be a Pakistani. I love my country with her resourceful coastline, the ideal geographical conditions, the prime status in the Muslim Ummah, and the God-given bounties. I do wonder that after 50 years since the Quaid gave us independence, we are still burdened with excessive corruption, pathetic literacy rate, galloping inflation, worsening law and order situation, and a rotten economy. And the list goes on. The question here is then : Who is to be blamed?
Who is to be really blamed ? You, me, we, they, I ? Let us look into ourselves. We the CIBEANS. We are to be blamed too, in our own way. We have among our ranks those who practice and preach perversion by cheating on our hourlies, by flattering teachers to secure a better grade, by noisily disturbing classes, by attempting to ridicule tutors, by misbehaving with fellow students, especially of the opposite sex. Some of the students subscribe to the theory that there is no need to respect teachers because "they teach me because my dad is paying a large sum of money in fees."
What is this moral corruption, one may ask ? Is it considered advanced or progressive if someone adopts a degrading Westernized outlook ? Is it the hallmark of excellence if we deface the walls by indulging in graffiti ? Is it considered trendy to display one’s own fashion style in the corridors by imitating a model on a catwalk ? Is it considered a good deed to make fun of a student who is making a presentation in the class ? Does laughing at a mis-pronunciation display scholarly aptitude ? Does it really hurt to be called a Pakistani ?
Take the month of Ramadhan, for instance. The college administration has provided us with a prayer room and also ensures that the cafeteria is closed during this month. But many of us consider it a tortuous task to take time out for our prayers. Some of us take pains to impress upon others their non-fasting attitude.
What is being said here is what I believe in myself. CIBE prides in allowing students to have freedom of expression, a very vital human right. Of course, there is a student council, but it comprises of teachers only. Ironic, isn’t it ? At the same time, the teachers say : "Who is to blamed for bad results ? Who is to be blamed for misbehavior ? Who is to be blamed for illegal acts ? Who is to be blamed for over-confidence ? Students or the teachers ?
So what I would like to end with is that we all should consider from the bottom of our hearts and state that it is MY CIBE. This is the best school, the best place to learn, to study, to excel. And, this is the ideal spot to make sure that we get rid of our, your, mine, my faults.
