Listed below is Australia's two anthems; The National Anthem, 'Advance Australia Fair' and The Royal Anthem, 'God Save The Queen'.

On 19 April 1984 'Advance Australia Fair' was proclaimed by the Governor-General as the Australian National Anthem. A copy of the proclamation was published in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette No. S142, 10 April 1984.

'Advance Australia Fair' was composed by Peter Dodds McCormick (around 1878) with the 1st and 3rd verses taken as the National Anthem. The first performance of the words and music was on St Patricks Day, 1878.

Although 'God Save the Queen' is no longer our National Anthem, 'The Royal Anthem', as it is often referred to, is still played in Australia to honour the Queen and as a Royal Salute when Her Majesty or other members of the Royal Family are present. As well as a Royal Salute 'God Save the Queen' is often played on important national occasions such as ANZAC Day memorial services.

Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free;
With golden soil and wealth for toil;
Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in nature's gifts
Of beauty rich and rare;
In history's page let every stage
Advance Australia Fair.
In Joyful strains then let us sing,
'Advance Australia Fair'.

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross
We'll toil with heart and hands;
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands;
For those who come across the sea
we've boundless plains to share;
With courage let us all combine
To Advance Australia Fair.

'Advance Australia Fair'.
