Since the beginning of recorded history tales come down of conspiracy.
Often these covered the universally inexplicable occurrences of natural
cataclysms, eclipses, seasonal changes and other matters for which
scientific knowledge had yet to be developed. Graven gods conspired to
trick, despoil, kill, maim and discourage humankind in cultures as
diverse as Australian aborigines and the Eskimos. Prayer went to these
images in hope that their toying with humans would not be too severe nor
their angers too great.
Native Americans are blessed with a tradition of belief in the
conspiracy of such god/animals as Coyote, Crow and Bear to confuse and
frustrate people.
In the passage of time, with deeper collective reasoning and the
accumulation of observed and predictable phenomena, culture --
especially Western culture -- dismissed the naturalistic conspiracies in
favor of worshipping in two directions: toward a supernatural God of
judgment, redemption and benevolence, and toward the natural
predictability of scientific results.
Something in human nature, however, remained desirous of affixing blame
for unexpected defeats and setbacks upon conspiracies that were god-like
in reach, but manufactured out of the management of earthly, human
knowledge. With the coming of the Information Age, beginning with the
cheap-and-quick dissemination of ideas spread by the printing press, the
time it took to develop and broadcast a "conspiracy theory" shrank from
months and years -- even generations -- to virtually days and hours.
As inexpensive printing brought Western man out of a history of being
woefully uninformed about what occurred, it also brought him into a
future of rapidly spread conjecture about why they occurred.
The recent passage of Britain's Princess Diana in a horrific automobile
accident is but the latest of occurrences for which a "conspiracy
theory" bloomed overnight -- actually much quicker, thanks to the new
capability of instantaneous "publication" of conjecture on the internet.
Diana's death, I have read on the 'net, was a conspiracy of MI6
(Britain's "secret" secret intelligence bureau), the "Merovingians" (the
"rightful" Roman Catholic rulers of Europe and Britain, descended not
only from Charlemagne, but directly from the bloodline of Jesus Christ),
and, sometimes including subterranean cabals that ally with either of
the foregoing, and sometimes even involving the Rockefellers, the
Rothschilds, the Bilderbergers (an all-knowing council, a century old,
through which ruling royalty and wealth reign) and Bill Clinton.
The latter involved a Merovingian "union" of Great Britain and North
America (shades of Orwell in 1984) to be based upon, somehow, marrying
Clinton (purported to be a "bastard" of a Rockefeller) to Diana, whose
family of Spencer allegedly traces its roots to a semi-royal
pro-Merovingian past that predates the current Windsor Throne by 500
years, with the prospect of Diana not only being Queen Mother in London
but Queen Stepmother in the U.S. (it often gets quite tricky to follow
conspiracies, requiring a great deal of mental gymnastics and
Olympic-record leaps of faith).
The foregoing conspiracy asks its adherents to believe that
responsibility for Diana's death lie with MI6, the CIA, the French
Secret Service, the Israeli Mossad (?!), the Pope (??!!) or a sort-of
NATO-exercises combination, owed to Diana's refusal to "marry" Bill
because she had fallen in love with the pure and knightly Dodi El-Fayed.
The foregoing warrior agencies or offices (yes, the Pope does have an
army) accomplished the killing with Chinese puzzle-box intricacy BECAUSE
the rightful Merovingian Throne of England (???!!!) should not be
blasphemed by a future ruler (Prince Wills) whose step-grandaddy was a
dreaded Muslim Egyptian related to Arab princes (El Fayed, pere).
(You see...you see....)
Of course, "earthly" conspiracies do take place. Mark Antony DID
conspire with Brutus against Caesar. Judas DID conspire with the
Sanhedrin against Jesus (the most rare of instances, where an "earthly"
conspiracy fulfilled a Biblical Prophecy), Benedict Arnold DID conspire
with the British against the Continental Army (conspiracy theories are
replete with turncoats).
However, the quickening pace of "believing" conspiracy theories, again,
aided by ever-rapid communication of conjecture, is an issue that must
be considered by the moderns. Conspiracy theorists would have us believe
that John F. Kennedy was assassinated (no, not assassinated, merely
wounded and hidden away...?) by either the American Right or by
disgruntled Mafiosi, that Pearl Harbor's attack was permitted
(encouraged...?) by Franklin Roosevelt in order to hasten U.S. entry
into Asia's World War II, that Neil Armstrong did NOT take that "step"
upon the Moon, that something now fuzzily referred to as "the New World
Order" (CFR) wholesale controls all American politics (every President
from FDR through Clinton, ignoring eight years of Ronald Reagan), that
"black helicopters" packed tightly with blue-bereted U.N. troops looking
something like "Malaysians" regularly patrol the perimeter of
Yellowstone National Park, that AIDS was developed by the CIA in order
to terrorize and liquidate homosexuals, that crack cocaine was developed
by the CIA in order to terrorize and liquidate impoverished
African-Americans.
At the birth of most conspiracy theories is the conceit, the vanity
that the individual or group to which the seemingly inexplicable has
occurred is the CENTRAL character around which all else revolves in
attention. There would be no "Kennedy theories" if John F. Kennedy had
not been deified by core followers and much of the public; no "Diana
theory" if a similar, goddess crown had not been placed upon her brow.
The issue of concern is not that these conspiracy theories carry coin
in this age -- after all, it is the era of irresponsibility for the
seemingly inexplicable, personified by the "victimization" playlets
performed daily on daytime talk TV -- but that conspiracy theories
occupy so much of the modern psyche, inflame and impassion vanities, to
the point of pushing out faith in empirical data and Faith in God.
The task of the enlightened...the TRULY enlightened...is to return to
mankind's roots and winnow the wheat from the chaff, ponder but disgorge
the indigestible. The repugnant vanity of, in any manner, conferring
deity-like status upon the mere mortality of FDR, JFK, Diana, the
Rockefellers, Clinton or the U.N. as a ruling entity, must be repudiated
at every chance.
Only mankind, humans as individuals washed in the fount of Faith for
God, exist among the peoples. God has ordained that the ability of these
individuals to bind in conspiracy against His larger Plan will not be
permitted. With Faith in His omniscience, I commend the following from
Psalms 2:1-2 (KJV):
"Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel
together, against
the LORD, and against his anointed..."
