[#5..1-4-98] Many of you may have wondered as I did at the source of the money being pumped into the 1996 elections from China. A recent article in INSIGHT magazine reveals a shocking and potentially devastating chain of events. It seems that the Red Chinese have set up phoney corporations (they wouldn't do that would they?), with phoney directors, and phoney financial statements. They then approach Wall Street, sell a bond for however many million they want to, and put the money in their pocket. It seems that presently Wall Street investors may be on the hook (no pun) for as much as 100 BILLION dollars in fraudulent bonds that have been sold in the market. Indeed much of the money that goes to any Chinese operation, whether it be from thesale of children's toys or AK47s, seems to end up in the hands of the PLA (China's army). Most Chinese companies cannot operate profitably with the military taking such huge
bites out of their revenues, so they borrow money. The Chinese banks are in no better condition than their businesses, so The World Bank guarantees their loans. And now we get to the bad part for the U.S. citizen. The U.S. is responsible for 25% of the money that is loaned to these banks, and at this
time Bejing's major banks are effectively bankrupt because of $90 BILLION in non-preforming loans. Bejing acknowledges that 20% of all bank loans have turned sour, although analysts insist that this is understating the true picture. Keep your hand on your wallet at all times.
[#7...UPDATE 2-10-98]The Washington Post said in today's editions that the report stated that Mochtar and James Riady -- head of the Indonesia-based Lippo Group conglomerate and longtime Clinton supporters -- "have had a
long-term relationship with a Chinese intelligence agency." The report said that relationship appeared to be "based on business interests" to obtain Chinese assistance in international business opportunities "in exchange for large sums of money and other help." The committee also said, according to the Post, that it had "unverified information" that John Huang, the former Lippo executive and onetime Democratic fund-raiser, may have a direct financial relationship with the Chinese government.
[#11...UPDATE 11-5-97] In a bizarre twist of fate, a car, damaged by one of the tornadoes that struck Arkansas earlier this year, has produced thousands of missing Whitewater documents from its trunk. Also among the documents was a cashier's check made out to none other than Bill Clinton. The source of the check was James McDougal's failed S & L Madison Guaranty Trust. This is curious because the president testified last year that he "never borrowed any money from Madison Guaranty Trust". If this was not a loan, perhaps it was graft, There aren't any other rational explanations for this rather large sum of money being issued to then Governor Clinton. So I guess we get to choose between perjury and graft. Check back for further updates as these documents are authenticated and leaked to the press.
[#19..8-14-97]Judicial Watch has forced the disclosure of over a 100,000 documents detailing Charlie Trie's duties as a member of the Commission on U.S.-Pacific Trade and Investment Policy. As a result of its court case against the Commission, Judicial Watch now has in its possession these documents which are available to the press. The Commission was
responsible for advising President Clinton on China's entry into the World Trade Organization and China's Most Favored Nation (MFN) status. Charlie Trie is currently hiding in China and has refused to speak with Congressional investigators. Trie laundered
over $600,000 in illegal foreign contributions, including from Communist Chinese sources, for the President's Legal Expense Trust.
[#25..9-26,27-97]A cultist is one who has a strong belief in the Bible and the Second Coming of Christ; who frequently attends Bible Studies; who has a high level of financial giving to a Christian cause; who home schools for their children; who has accumulated survival foods and has a strong belief in the Second Amendment; and who distrusts big government. Any of those
may qualify (a person as a cultist) but certainly more than one would cause us to strongly look at this person as a threat, and his family as being in a risk situation that qualified for
government interference. Waco was one of those situations that qualified under our definition of people being at risk that necessitates government action to save them." -Janet Reno, from 60 Minutes interview.
[#27...6/27/97] - President Clinton has announced new tougher air quality standards. These tough new standards will be particularly tough for coal burning plants, who must now turn to more "environmentally" friendly coal as is found in the Kaiparowits Plateau in Utah. Unfortunately this coal deposit is now contained in the 1.2 million acres that has been stolen from the state of Utah for a national monument. Other
miners of this low sulfur coal will benefit greatly from the presidents actions. Among these is the Lippo group in Indonesia.
[#28 9-27-97]The chairman of the House committee investigating whether voter fraud aided the defeat of former Rep. Bob Dornan suggested Wednesday that the nearly yearlong inquiry would continue indefinitely. ``We are going to continue this process until we get to the bottom of it,'' Rep. Bill Thomas, R-Calif., said, answering Democrats who complained that the investigation had dragged on too long and should be closed. Democrats have accused
Republicans of pursuing the investigation to intimidate Rep. Loretta Sanchez, D-Calif., who booted Dornan from the Orange County congressional seat last November by a margin of
984 votes.
[#29 1-12-98] As the director of the Western Journalism Center, Joseph Farah has seen first hand the chilling effect of a politically motivated IRS scrutinizing his
organization. It all began in the fall of 1994. The Clinton Administration, fearing that the just completed elections were an ominous sign of election results to come, began a new
strategy. One of the facets of this strategy was to compile an enemies list. Only two journalists made the list, Christopher Ruddy author of "The Strange Death of Vincent Foster" and Mr. Farah. Soon after the forming of this list, the Western Journalism Center was targeted for an IRS audit. Coincidence? I think not.
[#31...9-27-97] Soon after the Mendozas had been arrested and released, they received a letter from the IRS informing them that they owed back taxes and if they didn't pay by a certain date their property would be confiscated to pay the bill. Mr. Mendoza, after consulting with an attorney and telephoning the IRS, was informed by the agency that they had dropped the matter blaming a computer error for the original letter. The IRS declined to comment on the matter. This is transcribed from the Michael Reagan radio talk show - Reagan: Today America excluded the IRA from a list of 32 organizations which Americans are banned from sending money, weapons and other support. This signaled that the vociferous Irish-American Lobby
in the United States may continue giving help to Northern Ireland's Republican gunmen. This come a day after...and this folks by the way is a story from the London Telegraph
...comes a day after President Clinton assured David Tremble, the Ulster Unionist leader, that Washington would repudiate Sinn Fein/IRA if it broke the cease fire.
[#37...1-19-98] AMERICA'S former ambassador to London has accused the White House of leaking British secrets to the IRA in a disclosure that lays bare the extent of the diplomatic row over President Clinton's attitude to Gerry Adams. Ray Seitz, who was ambassador from 1991 to 1994, reveals in his memoirs - an extract from which is published in The Sunday
Telegraph today - that relations between the two governments became so bad that London stopped passing sensitive intelligence to the White House "because it often seemed to find its way back to the IRA". Mr Seitz also launches a devastating attack on Jean Kennedy Smith, who was appointed US ambassador to Dublin by Mr Clinton. "Jean Kennedy Smith, who distrusted her own
staff and penalized them for their dissent, became promotion agent for Adams. Too shallow to understand the past and too naive to anticipate the future, she was an ardent IRA apologist."
[#41...11-17-97] In a speech given in Baltimore, October 26, 1997, Clinton appointee Sara Lister, an assistant secretary of the Army for manpower and reserve affairs, made remarks concerning the U. S. Marine corps that were deemed offensive by the corps. She said she considered the Army ``much more connected to society than the Marines'' and added, ``The Marines are extremists. Wherever you have extremists, you've got some risks of total disconnection with society.'' She also said the Marines ``have all these checkerboard fancy uniforms'' compared to the ``muddy boots'' Army. Radio talk show host and former Marine Oliver North said Lister should have referred to
the Marines as ``extremely brave, extremely dedicated, extremely fit, and extremely faithful.'' Rep. Paul McHale, D-Pa., a former Marine, supported a resolution calling on Lister to resign. Lister's remarks, McHale said, ``were not taken out of context. They were not misinterpreted. They were simply wrong. Unfortunately for Assistant Secretary Lister, she was simultaneously articulate and foolish.'' Ms. Lister apologized for her remarks stating that they were taken out of context, but that dog doesn't hunt. The truth is Ms. Lister exemplifies the attitude of the Clinton Administration towards all of the
United States armed force.
Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman, stated, "Charlie Trie, a likely Communist Chinese agent, was a Little-Rock restaurateur with little or no qualifications to
serve on an important trade advisory committee. Yet, by executive order President Clinton expanded the Commission to allow Trie both a participatory role in U.S.-China trade policy
and access to U.S. trade secrets. The hundreds of thousands of documents Judicial Watch now has in its possession will help to reveal the true Charlie Trie and, more importantly, the
President's role in his appointment and activities."
Judicial Watch invites all interested members of the media to come to Judicial Watch's Washington D.C. headquarters in order to inspect the documents. Also welcome to view the documents are any interested Congressional staff members or investigators, Democrat or Republican, as well as the Clinton Justice Department. The Clinton Justice Department, which contrary to the "conventional wisdom" of the mainstream media, has not been
conducting a thorough investigation of the campaign finance scandal, but is instead in a "delay" mode. Judicial Watch depositions confirm that the Clinton Justice Department has
not yet questioned, nor called before the grand jury, key government officials implicated in the scandal.
As Attorney General Janet Reno looked the other way, 51 witness have fled the country or are taking the Fifth Amendment. Judicial Watch will not "look the other way" and is
conducting its investigation on behalf of the American public. This update is from a press release by Judicial Watch 8/14/97.
- BY ROGER EBERT, Of Chicago Sun Times Like many news-drenched
Americans, I paid only casual attention to the standoff at Waco, Texas, between the Branch Davidians and two agencies of the federal government. I came away with the vague impression that the "cult,'' as it was always styled, was a group of gun-toting crackpots, that they killed several U.S. agents, refused to negotiate and finally shot themselves and burned down their "compound'' after the feds tried to end the siege peacefully with tear gas.
Watching William Gazecki's remarkable documentary "Waco: The Rules of Engagement,'' I am more inclined to use the words "religion'' than "cult,'' and "church center'' than
"compound.''
Yes, the Branch Davidians had some strange beliefs, but no weirder than those held by many other religions. And it is pretty clear, on the basis of this film, that the original raid
was staged as a publicity stunt, and the final raid was a government riot--a tragedy caused by uniformed boys with toys. Of course I am aware that "Waco'' argues its point of view,
and that there is no doubt another case to be made. What is remarkable, watching the film, is to realize that the federal case has not been made.
Evidence has been "lost,'' files and reports have "disappeared,'' tapes have been returned blank, participants have not testified and the "crime scene,'' as a Texas Ranger indignantly
testifies, was not preserved for investigation, but razed to the ground by the FBI--presumably to destroy evidence. The film is persuasive because:
1. It presents testimony from both sides, and shies away from cheap shots. We feel we are seeing a fair
attempt to deal with facts.
2. Those who attack the government are not simply lawyers for the Branch Davidians or muckraking authors (although they are represented) but also solid middle-American types
like the county sheriff, the district Texas Rangers, the FBI photographer on the scene, and the man who developed and patented some of the equipment used by the FBI itself to film
devastating footage that appears to show its agents firing into the buildings--even though the FBI insists it did not fire a single shot.
3. The eyes of the witnesses. We all have built-in
truth detectors, and although it is certainly possible for us to be deceived, there is a human instinct that is hard to fool. Those who argue against the government in this film seem to be telling the truth, and their eyes seem to reflect inner visions of what they believe happened, or saw happen.
Most of the government defenders, including an FBI spokesman and Attorney General Janet Reno, seem to be following rehearsed scripts and repeating cant phrases. Reno comes across
particularly badly: Either she was misled by the FBI and her aides, or she was completely out of touch with what was happening. If the film is to be believed, the Branch Davidians were a harmless if controversial group of religious zealots, their beliefs stretching back many decades, who were singled out for attention by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for offenses, real or contrived, involving the possession of firearms--which is far from illegal in Texas. The ATF hoped by
raiding the group to repair its tarnished image. And when four of its agents, and several Davidians, were killed in a misguided raid, they played cover-up and turned the case over to
the FBI, which mishandled it even more spectacularly.
What is clear, no matter which side you believe, is that during the final deadly FBI raid on the buildings, a toxic and flammable gas was pumped into the compound even though
women and children were inside. "Tear gas'' sounds innocent, but this type of gas could undergo a chemical transformation into cyanide, and there is a pitiful shot of an 8-year-old
child's body bent double, backward, by the muscular contractions caused by cyanide.
What comes through strongly is the sense that the attackers were "boys with toys.'' The film says many of the troops were thrilled to get their hands on real tanks. Some of the law-enforcement types were itching to "stop standing around.''
One SWAT team member boasts he is "honed to kill.'' Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Are Made for Walking'' was blasted over loudspeakers to deprive those inside of sleep (the memory of that harebrained operation must still fill the agents with shame).
When the time came, on April 19, 1993, the agents were apparently ready to rock 'n' roll. Heat-sensitive films taken by the FBI and interpreted byexperts seem to show FBI agents firing into the compound, firing on an escape route after the fires were started, and deliberately operating on the side of the compound hidden from the view of the press.
No evidence is presented that those inside started fires or shot themselves. Although many dead Davidians were indeed found with gunshot wounds, all of the bullets and other evidence has been impounded by the FBI. Whatever happened at Waco, these facts remain: It is not against the law to hold irregular religious beliefs. It is not illegal to hold and trade firearms. It is legal to defend your own home against armed assault, if that
assault is illegal.
It is impossible to see this film without reflecting that the federal government, from the top down, treated the Branch Davidians as if those rights did not apply. Copyright Chicago-Sun-Times Inc.
``The process here seems to be a tortuous stringing-along,'' said Rep. Sam Gejdenson, D-Conn. ``We think this is kind of wandering along with the potential of wandering along
forever.'' But Thomas, the House Oversight Committee chairman, said those who have refused to answer subpoenas or stonewalled requests for information were to blame for the
investigation's length -- not Republicans. He said Sanchez and the Immigration and Naturalization Service were among those responsible. Dornan has claimed voting by non-U.S. citizens and illegal immigrants had contributed to his defeat. Both sides
acknowledge voter irregularities, but they disagree on the extent.
Thomas said there are questions ``that we don't have the answers to because (Sanchez) was unwilling to comply with the subpoena. Boy she is a fast learner isn't she.
In fact the IRS agent assigned to the case announced on his first visit that "This is a political case and the decision will be made on a national level." The audit was very successful in making the center spend much of it's assets to pay for ccountants, lawyers and staff time. More importantly, the audit had the effect of limiting the fund raising taken on by the center, even though their tax free status was ultimately extended. But The Western Journalism Center is not alone, a retired activist in California got an IRS audit notice one month after writing President Clinton a blistering letter criticizing his character. Coincidence? I think not.
The film maker who directed "Waco: Rules of Engagement," a documentary critical of the administration has received a notice from the IRS. Coincidence? I think not. Paula
Jones, the homemaker suing the president for sexual harassment received an audit notice one week after rejecting a settlement offer from the White House. Coincidence? I
think not. Billy Dale (see unethical act #49), after being fired from his post at the travel office, raised a small fuss. Soon after he was contacted by the IRS. Coincidence? I think
not.
Patricia Mendoza (see unethical act #31) after spontaneously hurling an insult at the president, was threatened with seizure of her property from the IRS. Her crime? She was
accused of failure to pay back taxes of a whopping $200. After a massive amount of publicity, the IRS dropped the matter claiming a "computer error". Coincidence? I think
not. How about Margie Gray, a retired housewife who, e-mailed President Clinton a non-threatening letter accusing him of setting a bad example for the youth of our country.
Guess what, she was notified by the IRS that she owed $3,500.00 in interest due to an error on her 1991 tax return. Coincidence? I think not. I could go on, but I think you all get
the message.
WASHINGTON (January 13, 1998) - One of the dirty little secrets in Washington is how commonplace the political abuse of the Internal Revenue Service has been historically. A
number of U.S. presidents, including John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon, have been suspected of bludgeoning or threatening to bludgeon their political enemies with the IRS,
but few seem to have been more blatant about it than the current occupant of the Oval Office. The evidence is mounting that the White House considers a tax audit a legitimate
weapon to use against the president's opponents. And the IRS seems to have accepted this role despite the illegality and obvious immorality of it
The latest victim, of course, is Paula Jones, who has accused Clinton of sexually harassing her while he was governor of Arkansas. Almost immediately after declining to
settle her civil suit against the president, Jones found herself under IRS audit. The Treasury Department is conducting an investigation to see if the Jones audit was
politically motivated. The answer seems obvious. Jones joined a long list of those who have felt the IRS sting after challenging the Clintons on a variety of issues. During the last
election, conservative anti-Clinton groups like the Heritage Foundation, the National Rifle Association and Citizens Against Government Waste were audited. But there were no similar reports of audits on liberal, pro-Clinton groups.
Also on the audit list were conservative magazines like the National Review and the American Spectator -- both highly critical of Clinton policy. In one of the more infamous
incidents, White House travel office director Billy Dale fought his firing and not only found himself under criminal indictment but also a target of the IRS. Dale was acquitted, and
the entire episode is now a part of the investigation being conducted by special prosecutor Kenneth Starr. Attorney Kent Masterson Brown successfully sued Hillary Clinton to force disclosure of work being done by her then-secret health care task force and suddenly became the subject of a federal tax audit.
Kennedy's agents perused the tax returns of political opponents almost from the day he took office, and Nixon exhorted his aides to sic the IRS on his enemies. The damage that
can be done by an unscrupulous IRS under normal circumstances is awesome. Senate hearings recently highlighted the abuses perpetrated by federal tax collectors and received an enormous response from taxpayers. But couple the auditing power with a president who sanctions this kind of activity and the debilitating impact it has on legitimate political debate and activity is devastating.
This doesn't presume that most American taxpayers are dishonest; it merely says that the process of an audit is time consuming and threatening and is bound to have a chilling
effect on those who disagree with official policy. That's why Congress has made the tax returns of Americans almost sacrosanct, adding criminal penalties to those who disclose
individual tax information without court authorization. In its effort to help IRS clean up its act and to strengthen its own oversight of the agency, Congress definitely should make it
clear that political misuse of tax information or the threat of it won't be tolerated
This administration has shown an incredible lack of sensitivity, and to assume that all those audits of Clinton's adversaries weren't deliberate is foolish. DAN THOMASSON, Scripps Howard News Service
In announcing the list of outlawed groups, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said, "The United States is demonstrating its leadership and determination in the struggle against
international terrorism." Now let me tell you something. Back on August 6th of this year, Clinton promised Jerry Adams (of the Sinn Fein) a US visa in return for a cease fire. So,
there was a cease fire, Adams came here, went back with money and, of course, we have read about the blood shed since. One June 22, of this year, "Forget the IRA," was what Tony Blair was begging the United States of America.
In March of this year, as the London papers say, "the former killer toured the US to tout the IRA lies." On May 30th of 1995, Labor barred Adams from using US funds and in March of 1995 the US lifted the ban on Adams fund raising. Now, folks, understand this, Jerry Adams was not allowed in this country under Reagan or Bush. He was not allowed because they thought of him as a terrorist. That was broken down in 1995 by Clinton, and
he was invited to the United States of America. He had lunch on Capitol Hill, he broke break with the President of the United States and Newt Gingrich, by the way. He raised
money here. He set up an office here and now he comes and goes, I guess, as he wills.
And so, you and I, as American Citizens, under the new Anti-Terrorism Act that was passed in the 104th Congress, can't give money so some 30 different organizations. And
they include, of course, groups such as the Palestinian group Hamas, the Basque Separatists, the Kymer Rouge, etc. But we can give all the money we want to the IRA. Why do you think that happened? Well, let me just put this out there and you do with it as you will. You do believe is the Ambassador to Ireland? The Ambassador to Ireland is none other than the sister of Senator Ted Kennedy. End of story. Ted Kennedy has money. He has power and his sister is the Ambassador. Oh! Are they supporters of Sinn Fein? Yes, they certainly, certainly are.
