Without this gas, these weapons will not preform reliably and as specified. Tritium decays very rapidly, losing 50% of its radioactive charge over a 12 year period. And unless it is periodically replaced, nuclear weapons become inoperable and useless. Because of the Clinton Administration's shutdown of our tritium program, we may be incapable of securing adequate supplies for at least a decade or more. Imagine-a U.S. president may face a nuclear crisis in 2007 and be uncertain as to whether he can truly respond to a nuclear strike.
