This is Carolyn from about the time I first met her. She smelled a lot like patchouli oil.
This is my best friend David with good friend Jera acting just a little goofy. He'd be the first to tell you he's not always this handsome! Dave's a rehab counselor in an HIV patient clinic in Kansas City. He pretends he's a lot grumpier than he really is, and if something needs to be done, he is always the person you can count on to do it.
Favorite quote: "Fags give me gas." (He's a gay rights activist.)
This is my other best friend Jen. These pics were both taken a few years ago when she was still in grad school in Columbia, MO. Now she's a high school English teacher and top-ranked speech and debate coach in Oklahoma. I miss her a lot since we've moved so far away from each other. She's one of the all-time smartest people I've ever met and definitely the sweetest, and god help her, she understands me.
These are John and Jill, Carolyn's cousins. I consider them both friends. John is extremely wry, loves the blues, once lived in a VW bus briefly, and has a dog named VW. Jill is very witty, once accidentally set a turtle on fire (long story), and is about to get--gulp!--married! As you can see from this bridesmaid picture of her from my wedding, she'll make a beautiful bride.
