In my campaign I've stressed 3 things about drug problems:

1] you aren't protecting your children by subsidizing drug houses and street gangs via the war on drugs.

2] you can't effectively treat drug addiction by only treating the short term problems and ignoring long term problems like tobacco addiction.

3] you can't effectively educate children about drug abuse without a companion abstinence based sex education program. And you need it to be developed by people who've actually practiced long term abstinence; people like myself.

If I'm elected I'll push all three ideas - except if ballot measure 9 passes. That measure would prohibit any teaching of any sex education in the schools. I've run across way too many people who mistakenly engaged in sexual activity way too early. They won't get the satisfaction they deserve from sex because of this - and they invariably seek to compensate for this by use of progressively dangerous drugs. If someone feels that they "need" drugs for sex - they are definitely not ready for sex. And it doesn't matter if they are 15, 25, or 45. Abstinence education and recreational drug education shouldn't be separated. Both recreational drug use and sex are good things that give great benefits in later life - if done in a responsible manner.

I've emailed Mabon on how to write measures to deal with real problems, but apparently he finds it more profitable to deal with imaginary ones. Too bad his proposal will put a nix into another common sense solution.
