The voters of district 34 will have a clear cut choice - and opportunity - this election. I have proposed plans which would decriminalize all drugs and move street drugs off the streets into newly created recreational drug stores. This would wipe out ALL the drug houses [not just chase them into someone elses' neighborhood] and take a HUGE bite out of crime and violence. It would also reduce drug abuse and give the public the opportunity to finally regulate all recreational drugs.
I maintain that the only regulation really needed is to let people know what is in the drug and what it will do to you. History and studies have consistently shown us that - given choices - people will overwhelmingly choose moderation over abuse. Even the unhealthiest segment of our population, the infamous lab rats, given choices, will choose moderation over abuse.
I am also advocating the teaching of abstinence with drug abuse education. I would like to use ministers and religious leaders as resources - instead of police; let police deal with real crime issues. If the ministers are not in the classroom helping teachers deal with these issues, they will surely be in their pulpits second guessing everything the teachers do - and we will continue to get trash like measure 9 on our ballots.
The crime party incumbent has consistently advocated locking lots of people in jail - because that's what Republicans do about crime. Since he, like most Republicans, absolutely refuses to stand up for tax increases to pay for his jails, he will be looking to southern states where they lock people up cheaper. I will be looking at northern states like Vermont, who have better gun laws.
The crime party challenger is advocating gun control, like measure 5, because that's what Democrats do. While I have no use whatsoever for guns and I don't even like guns, gun control is not necessary, wouldn't be on the ballot if not for the War on Drugs, and - if gun control does for guns what drug laws have done for street drugs, it will be a very, very, scary world out there if we continue on this path.
The theme of my candidacy is "you don't solve problems by making other peoples' lives miserable". Instead you give people every opportunity to be a hero. 19 times out of 20 they will pick up that white hat, do the right thing, and solve the problem for you. It's that 20th time that you really need government.
I am giving the voters of the 34th district the opportunity to be heroes. History has shown us that when drug laws go down, they go down quickly; decades of drug laws are overturn within a year or so of being challenged. Political leaders in Salem and DC are keenly aware of this; the War on Drugs has no basis in logic or righteousness, but is based solely on deception and delusion. So it's quite likely that the voters of the 34th district could singlehandedly fire the volley that brings the War on Drugs to its knees; a policy that has ruined millions of lives [tens of thousands on a permanent basis] and threatens the safety and well being of generations to come. All you have to do is pick up that white hat and do the right thing; future generations will thank you for your heroism. After all elections shouldn't be about money and personalities; they should be about doing the right thing.
