The National Partys beliefs
All elements of the National Party of Australia support the same beliefs and objectives. These are to:
guarantee continued freedom of speech, communication, worship, assembly and association for all Australians;
support continued democratic elections for Federal, State and Local Governments within the Australian and State Constitutions;
promote loyalty to the Crown and Nation, pride in the National Anthem and respect for the existing Australian National Flag;
preserve the maintenance of an independent judicial system of unquestioned integrity, based on the tenet that all people are innocent until proven guilty and providing for trial by a jury of peers;
ensure an economic environment which creates jobs, fosters international competitiveness, encourages wealth creation and rising standards of living and rewards initiative, enterprise and self-reliance;
ensure through economic policies that our agricultural and mineral export industries are given the most internationally competitive environment possible;
support policies to maximise country and regional development, ensure the growth of small business and family farms and equality of services between city and country;
provide Commonwealth administration and services in the most cost-efficient manner, so that the overall level of personal and corporate taxation may be contained at the lowest possible level;
encourage the preservation of private ownership and the advancement of private enterprise;
enhance Australia’s standing as a positive contributor to world affairs;
maintain the security of Australia, its people and all Australian territorial waters and external territories through an adequately manned and equipped Australian Defence Force;
ensure priority consideration is given in the development of policies which support the family as the foundation of society;
implement personal tax policies which favour families with children;
pursue measures to encourage greater population growth through natural increase;
support the pursuit of excellence at all levels of education, enterprise and sporting endeavour;
ensure all parents have the freedom to choose the education they believe is best for their children;
ensure all Australian’s have access to a high standard of health care;
inspire in all Australians a genuine desire to contribute to the future of the nation and therefore to their own progress and success;
totally oppose any form of discrimination against Australian citizens, irrespective of racial origin, sex or religion;
guarantee the rights, freedoms and aspirations of Australians to pursue their personal goals in a democratic society;
continue an immigration programme, based on ensuring that it is in the best interests of Australia’s social and economic future, with the final decision as to who should be migrants to Australia being one for the Federal Government;
encourage migrants to place their first loyalty to Australia, its institutions, traditions and values, and to becoming Australian citizens;
provide, on a fair and equitable basis, assistance to those in genuine need;
ensure a responsible balance is struck between necessary industrial, mineral and agricultural development and protection of the environment and our natural heritage for future generations;
emphasize those historical, cultural and traditional values and standards which formed the basis for the development of the nation;
ensure maximum knowledge and awareness is promoted among all Australians, especially children, of the Nation’s heritage, Aboriginal culture and language, and flora and fauna to ensure the preservation of these unique assets for future generations.
