Taylor Branch is a historian who brings history to life in
all its glory and agony. His latest book, Pillar of Fire: America
in the King Years 1963-1965, shows the civil rights movement in
an elegant detail permeated with truth and understanding. This is
the highest caliber of US social history. It captures a time when
people felt compelled to take action regardless of risk. We badly
need that kind of spirit today when the action required is to
save the global human community and to save the Earth's biosphere
which makes the human community possible. For writing so
eloquently about how human beings and human organizations can act
to make human society more just, more equalitarian, more free and
more tolerant, Taylor Branch has been named Futuresaver of the
Week. Click the links below for more information.
