Beverly Perdue is the new Democratic Governor of the state of North Carolina, its first female governor. She defeated Republican Pat McCrory. She is for making government more efficient, more accessable and more accountable to the people. She is for more positive Gubernatorial campaigns, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Department of Transportation and its ability to be free of financial interests in projects, unannounced inspections of state facilities, statistical performance reviews including state mental hospitals and probation offices, develop and maintain a searchable public website that shows management and spending on grants and contracts, establishing a budget reform and accountability commission with citizen oversight and at least four live televised town halls and an E-Town hall on her website. She is committed to responsibly balancing the state budget. She ordered a stop to purchases of goods and services except for classrooms and she ordered limits on travel, a hold on pay-as-you-go appropriations for capital improvements and a freeze on hiring for vacant positions. She wants to completely realize Dr. King's visions for full reform of society. She urged that there be a quick passage of the federal stimulus recovery package so that unemployed people can be put back to work building the projects needed to improve our economy.
