Alan Grayson is the new Democratic Congressman for the 8th district of Florida, defeating Republican Ric Keller. Grayson is for ending the Iraq war and has filed dozens of citizen lawsuits against crooked contractors who have cheated American troops and taxpayers. He won a $10 million jury verdict, the second largest verdict in history in a case the Justice Department refused to prosecute and has testified four times before Congress about fraud in Iraq. Taxpayers Against Fraud named him lawyer of the year in 2006 for his work against war profiteers and he has been interviewed on 60 Minutes, CBS Evening News and NPR. He was profiled in Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone and Wall Street Journal. He favors ending the Iraq war quickly without increasing danger to US forces because the war has made us less safe, has trained terrorists, has inflamed anti-Americanism, has antaginized Iraqis, has been mismanaged, has cost hundreds of billions of dollars and has killed and maimed many. He is for higher fuel efficiency standards, clean and renewable energy sources, no offshore drilling for oil, no tax breaks for oil, independent energy research, providing quality affordable health care for all, middle and lower class tax breaks, job creation, quality education for all, a healthier environment for healthier people and addressing global warming in all of its facets.
