Bobby Bright is the Democratic Congressman-elect for the 2nd district of Alabama, defeating Republican Jay Love (the seat has been in Republican control since 1964) Bright is for ending dependence on foreign oil by using a plan to increase domestic sources of energy such as biodiesel, wind and solar. As Mayor of Montgomery he has had multiyear balanced budgets, a revived downtown area and a rainyday account of over $30 million. He wants to put Congress back into the hands of the people and out of the special interests in Washington. He wants our troups to leave Iraq with dignity and honor. He wants to change course in Iraq and address the growing threat in Afghanistan and Pakistan. He grew up on a farm and will be a strong voice in Washington for our farmers. He wants to make quality health care available to every American with tax credits for employers, double tax credits for families who do not have access to employer-based insurance and creation of insurance pools with reduced rates. He favors expanding Medicare and Medicaid. He wants to reduce the cost of prescription drugs. The Southern Star endorsed Bobby Bright. Nancy Pelosi contributed to Bright's campaign. The Montgomery Independent endorsed Bright. U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler campaigned for Bobby Bright.
